Artist History
Jack McMahon is a rare treasure.
In a day when adolescent enthusiasm is too often confused with musicianship, Jack McMahon stands out as an artist of integrity. From his formative years in New York's Greenwich Village, through his early professional experiences opening for Bruce Springsteen and Steely Dan, Jack McMahon has always given music priority over image and antics.
Gifted with a wonderfully warm, resonant voice, Jack was the preferred demo singer of Jerry Goffin (of Goffin-King fame), and many other New York songwriters. After his contract with Columbia Records expired, Jack came to the Northwest. Since that time he has continued to thrill audiences, not only with his great voice, but with precise guitar playing and finely crafted songs as well. That's why Oregonian music critic John Wendeborn called Jack "...one of the best on the west coast...", and why The Cowboy Angels recorded Jack's song "When The Rain Came Down".
Jack has been a featured artist at the following events:
The Oregon Symphony "Nerve Endings" series
KINK radio's "Lights Out Live"
The Portland Rose Festival
Oktober Fest
Artquake
The Bite
Jack has also performed at several popular Portland live music venues, including:
Key Largo
O'Connor's
The Buffalo Gap
The Kennedy School
McMenamin's White Eagle
Jack's 1983 album "Better Late" garnered high praise from reviewers, as well as regular airplay on KINK radio. In November 1998 Jack began work on a new CD that is scheduled for release this Spring. To support the new CD release, he has assembled an all-star band from among the finest, most experienced musicians in Portland, who have performed and recorded with nationally known artists such as Leon Russell, Caryl Mack Parker, and Great Plains; Northwest standouts like Johnny and The Distractions, Craig Carothers, and The Lucky Dawgs; as well as Portland favorites Tracks, Hank Rasco and The Wasted Rangers, Steve Bradley, and Puzzle.

JACK MCMAHON CD RELEASE
TOE THE LINE
Some things just improve with age. Like fine wine or a vintage guitar, the
songcraft of Jack McMahon has seasoned with time. From his teenage days as
singer/guitarist for the band NIGHTW ATCH in his native New Jersey, through formative
years playing solo at folk and rock clubs in New York City, Jack learned a lot. Opening
for acts like Bruce Springsteen, Steely Dan, and the New York Dolls brought exposure,
then with session work came a lot of studio experience. It was on a trip to the Northwest
in the mid 70s that Jack settled on Portland as his home. Music critic for the THE
OREGONIAN, John Wendeborn, called him and his band "one of the best on the West
Coast." Since then, Jack has continued to be a mainstay on the Portland music scene. In
the 80s, stints with the bands TRACKS and the CHAMELEONS were chances to
experiment stylistically. Jack's 1983 LP release, BETTER LATE garnered some
regional airplay and critical acclaim. In the early 90s, McMahon kept a low profile but in
1995, after teaming up with RON STEPHENS (guitarist/producer), GARY OGAN
(former Leon Russell drummer), and longtime friend JEFF WOODCOCK (bass), he
reemerged as a formidable contender, packing an arsenal of great songs, a strong voice,
and a rock solid band. Released June 6, 2000, Jack's new CD entitled TOE THE LINE
showcases his talents as a singer/songwriter. Influences from Bob Dylan and Jackson
Browne to Bruce Cockburn and Steve Earle can be heard but while Jack McMahon's
brand of Americana is eclectic, it is also uniquely his own. Visit Jack's website at
