Artist description Christian DJs on two technics, and for clubs and raves prefers to spin deep house. His record collection draws from labels such as Bedrock, Hooj, Plastik, and Saw, and his style/selections have been most influenced by the sound of the Global Underground. Christian's house sets start off very mellow, establishing a theme which he continues through each seamless transition. A DJ set should be like a symphony, with movements of varying energies sewn together to tell a story. This is Christian's mentality. He also scratches and spins downtempo and hiphop, learning to do so from watching Q-Bert videos. His downtempo interest stems from his production tastes and love of Kruder&Dorfmeister, Rae&Christian, and Fila Brazilia. As for his production work, Christian feels more bound by standards of quality rather than genre. Producers such as Trent Reznor, Coldcut, and Kid Koala have influenced Christian's meticulous attention to detail and originality. As a fan of electronica's forefathers, he regularly samples Pierre Henry, Stockhausen, Varese, and Cage as a sort of "ancestral worship." Combining intelligent beats, well chosen samples, and a wealth of musical elements, Christian creates soundscapes with purpose

Artist History Christian began DJing trance over two years ago, but moved onto the more intelligent side of dance music when he delved into deep house. From then he went onto throw and DJ at parties in Scranton, PA, where he attended school for two years. He then moved onto Oxford, England where he has spun locally and at clubs outside of town. Realizing the constraints of house, he briefly tried jungle, but was bitten by downtempo. Realizing that there are endless electronica genres, Christian felt contained in his tastes and started branching out into chillout and hiphop. Learning to scratch and mix different genres allowed him to realize the full potential of the turntable. Recently he struck up a DJ/Producer/Friendship with a local DJ John Beaties (aka Blake Monahan), and began doing live PA's recalling early Orb performances. Though house lovers at heart, under the guise of Blake&Christian, the duo's live shows involve drum machines, samplers, keyboards, turntables, and walkmans to create texturous soundscapes. Recently Christian began a two-year academic study of electronic music/subculture and subsequently has developed a better historical understanding of electronic music. His first major production, "Frankenstein," tips its hat to composers of old who paved the way for the age of sampling
