    Artist description
Justin and I used to play bass and guitar (respectively) and play Tony Hawk and listen to Weezer after school freshman year ('99/'00). After that summer, we tried to start a band with Matt Thomas on drums, and it sucked. Somewhere in there, Dave, Jon Levy (bass) and I tried to play a Rancid song at my house. That also sucked. Some time later, I found out that Chris Sung (guitar) and David Zankowski (bass) jammed with Kevin sometimes. Justin played with them a few times and then I joined in a little bit later. David kinda dropped out and I pushed my way in and added Dave to sing. Some complications and drama arose with Chris because the whole two guitar thing wasn't working out with my master plan for the band. The final result was that we split into 2 bands: BSOD with me, Justin, Kevin, and Dave and Everything Nothing (currently That Asian Kid) with Chris, Justin, and Kevin. At this point, we started rolling more smoothly as BSOD. We got some songs together, and started practicing more regularly. We moved from practicing at Kevin's house to practicing at Justin's house because his parents are more accomodating and his garage sounds better than Kevin's den thingy. In February 2001, we recorded 3 songs on a four-track at Justin's dad's friend's house. These songs were "Janet", "Your Song" and "The Tide." The recording is pretty shitty, as we had never done it before and we had a lot of problems. Me and Dave had always planned to have horns and go in a ska/punk direction, so we began to work on that. We added Ryan on saxophone, and had Nick White come practice with us on trumpet. Nick wasn't really into it at all, but Ryan stuck around and became a member of BSOD. Shortly thereafter, we got Luke on Trombone and Carl on Trumpet. This marked the completion of BSOD. After we started getting some more songs and including horns, we decided we needed a better name. We changed the name to 5 Second Rule (we still haven't decided if it's "5" or "Five" or if it matters).
