Artist description
Without blowing a bunch of smoke up your ass about them being an up and coming band with tremendous talent, simply put Solar Krush rocks! A four-piece band that harkens back to the days of camero driving, hair teasing A-Team watching arena rock.
A mixture of sounds that could be described somewhere between sugar coated power-pop and hairspray heavy glam rock.
With a live show that has been compared to “having more energy than a speed freak working at a Starbucks,”
Solar Krush is quickly on it’s way to a reputation as a great live act. Of the four members, three are vetern Atlanta musicians: Alan VanKirk (Vocals) comes from a progressive rock background with Relic, Timothy Pure & 1PULSE1 while Chris Cannon (Lead Guitar) and Jeff Hargens(Drums) cut their teeth with Phlox throughtout the 90’s.
Rounding out the group is Joey Phillips (Bass). The best way to describe Joey is, METAL! Joey lives and breathes metal, this new added dimension brings Solar Krush to the next level.
The guys are hard at work at famed Real 2 Reel Studios (Collective Soul) on their debut full length cd scheduled for release on GlamSlam Records in early 2002. |

Press Reviews
For those not paying attention, Atlanta, GA power-rockers Solar Krush seemingly came out of nowhere this past summer.
The band, comprised of Alan VanKirk (Lead Vocals / Guitar), Chris Cannon (Lead Guitar / Vocals) Jeff Hargens (Drums) & Joey Phillips (Bass), could be mistaken at first listen for a Mtley Cre cover band, or Jon Bon Jovi's backing band gone solo,
but spin the record again and it's filled with the raucous songs that might have come from a harder-thinking Romantics or a harder-drinking Cheap Trick.
But pop fans do a double take, and metal fans may find themselves fooled.
"The whole premise was to do two things, have fun and rock your panties off" says Alan VanKirk (Lead Singer).
"I'm not ashamed to say I grew up on new wave and hair metal, we want to have both sides of the spectrum.
We think rock should be over the top, and very few bands seem to be doing it that way.
Marilyn Manson and Korn have the showmanship and the style, but they obviously listened to Mtley Cre, and grew up and wanted to be them.
Where are the songs? We're not like that."
"I think rock bands have been too serious for the last 10 years," he said.
"Rock 'n' roll just got to the point where it was all about being backed into a corner and lashing out at the world.
It became so insincere that it became a joke. I was fed up with it and ready to move on to something different.
While some might agree that SK's all-out energy rock show is over the top, but that's what makes them so damn good.
"Some people have a hard time digesting that, but not many.
For a lot of people, it seems to be priority number one to be entertained these days, instead of having the band be too cool for school with their backs turned to the audience and acting like they're in a soundcheck.
"There's all these elements to be able to entertain people," said the singer/guitarist, who has obviously given the topic much thought.
"It's easy to get caught up in like a Marilyn Manson standpoint, who's a great entertainer and a great visual.
I think there's a reason why that's there; it's because he's not Elvis Costello at songwriting.
With all due respect to the guy, I don't think he cares about putting the song first.
He cares about entertaining first. I like to think we are somewhere in the middle."
VanKirk emphasizes that he and his mates grew up on everything from Queen, KISS and Mtley Cre to Cheap Trick, Duran Duran and the Pretenders, and they're determined to play songs with hooks and melodies.
"If you don't leave singing atleast one of our hooks, then we haven't done our job."
SK rolls home for a much anticipated ATL show before jumping back on the 2nd leg of their regional tour that will take them through Nashville, Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago, and many others.
On Saturday, September 29th the SK boys will be performing for a charity concert @ Alexander Park in McDonough The benefit goes to help “A Friends House” in Henry County.
If you want a good old fashion RAWK show with some hair metal tunes thrown in and a good cause to boot, then don't miss this one!
