Artist History
Irate. New York's most brutal band.
Founded in The Bronx in 1995, Irate quickly established themselves as a devastating live act in New York's metal/hardcore underground. In 1998, Irate released the pavement-crushing EP, Burden of a Crumbling Society. With its release, Irate gained the respect of fans home and abroad. Soon offers from indie labels began pouring in, solidifying themselves as a juggernaut barreling down the path to success.
Despite their great promise, conflicts surrounding the band began to take their toll. In the spring of 1999, bassist Jayrate was asked to leave. Later the same year, Irate was shocked by the unexpected departure of vocalist Phil Vibes. Down, but clearly not out, Irate's three remaining members, Nando Redrum, UV Rays and Nick Irate vowed to continue on.
After a string of unsuccessful tryouts, Irate acquired ex-Disfigured vocalist Joe Reilly. To fill the void of bassist, Nick Irate's little brother Curtis signed on temporarily. Armed with a setlist of new material, a new lineup, and a renewed determination to succeed, Irate once again began brutalizing the live scene. Even with this development, however, a certain chemistry was lacking.
Frustrated by the new lineup and still grieving the loss of Phil Vibes, Joe Reilly was asked to leave the band. After a brief period of reconciliation, Phil returned to Irate reclaiming his position as lead vocalist. Temporary bassist Curtis made his position permanent, thus completing the Voltron-like metal monster that is Irate.
Irate immediately began preparing the material for their first full-length album. The months spent in the studio resulted in the sonic alchemy known as 11:34. The album is a testament to the tribulations and anguish that each member has endured throughout their lives, both as a band, as well as in their personal lives.
Anyone who hears this album will immediately know what it means to be Irate.
