Artist description
Some 10 years ago Opbrouck Stijn aka Bytecon started his musical carrier at a little village in Belgium.
For more than 6 jears he played as guitarist and bassist in several bands. After the bands splitted up he discided to
make elektro-acoustic music in his home-studio. After a long period experimenting, Bytecon was able to do his first gigs.
Two years later Bytecon was picked up on D.J. Valium's label called Radar Records, were he did his first release.
At this time Groove-station was present to do his management. For the last years there came possibilities to grow
in the international undergroud scene with gig's in Germany, France and Czech Republic. Bytecon is well known for
his combinations of totally different music styles. Hard but not overdistorted, rhythmic without four-to-the-flour, travelling without over-experimenting, this is what you can get from Bytecon. There are no limits on the tracks, his influences are very different and on every track you feel the Bytecon-touch again. In the near future you may expect that alot of things gonna happen around this artist.

Press Reviews
Bytecon Interview for cosmium (Germany 29/10/2001)
----------------------------
M: Tonight we'd like to introduce you to Stijn Opbrouck,
the Belgian artist known as Bytecon. Hi Bytecon.
B: Hi.
M: The music we heard so far was played live and recorded
at radio Galaxy in France on 12th of October 2001.
Bytecon, How would you describe your sound?
B: Well, that's a little bit difficult to say, because
people describe it differently. Some say it is experimental
Techno, some call it progressive Electro, others call it
different. For me it doesn't really matter what people call it.
What I want to do is to create high quality music with
happy tunes, significant melodies that stay in the head,
freaky and funky grooves.
Someone in a review said my music is hard but not overdistorted,
rhythmic without four-to-the-floor, travelling without over-experimenting.
I think this is a good description.
M: What was the review about and what records did Bytecon already release?
B: The review was about my first record on the Belgian label called
Radar Records. This is the label of DJ Valium. The record was released
around April this year and is called Radar 002. Its tracks are also in the live
set we hear at the moment, so you get an impression of the music on this
record.
M: Can our listeners get a copy of this record here in Germany, too or is it only
distributed in Belgium?
B: Yeah sure, you can get it in all European countries and also in the United
States. For Germany it is distributed by Intergroove and Neuton, so you should find it
in most record shops.
M: Is there any plan for more Bytecon releases?
B: Yes there is. Normally there will be a new release at the beginning of next year.
I've produced lots of tracks in the last months and Groovestation Management is
currently discussing about what will be released next.
M: As far as I know you started creating music 10 years ago. You are now 25, so how did
it all begin when you were 15?
B: In the small village I grew up, there were quite
some musicians. I was always hanging around with them and we were jamming together
all the time. This way I've learned much about music and how to play bass and guitar.
As a consequence I've played for five years in several bands. After that most bands
splitted up and I decided to go on with music on my own. So I bought my first
electronic instruments and my studio grew up in the last years to what it is now.
M: I think that although you are now producing pure electronic music the influence
of playing in a band is still present in your arrangements. Last time I saw you
playing live I recognized that you do not focus on working with computers only
but also use external instruments.
B: Yeah, if I want to have some kind of sound I don't care where it comes from.
As long as it sounds good, it doesn't matter if it's an electronic or acoustic or
whatever instrument. I do lots of samples all the time walking around with my
digital recorder.
M: Just one last question. Is there any Bytecon information on the web?
B: You can find Bytecon contact information on the internet on www.sidstation.de/bytecon.
M: www.sidstation.de/bytecon. Ok, thank you very much for this interview.
I'm sure we will hear more from Bytecon in the future.
