    Artist description
    Extreme metal.
    Artist History
With influences ranging from classic 80's metal to black metal, death metal to thrash, the band known as Arsis was conceived in December of the year 2000. Starting out as a studio project centered on guitarist/songwriter James Malone and drummer Michael Van Dyne, the first recording by Arsis was a three-song demo, quickly put together in the winter of 2000. This demo was circulated on a small scale during 2001, and managed to establish Arsis as an intense up-and-coming band in the extreme metal scene. Content with the outcome of this recording, January of 2002 saw Malone travel to Boston from his home in Virginia to record with Van Dyne a second time. Five new songs were recorded, and once circulated, this more-polished demo saw Arsis gain worldwide recognition in the underground metal scene. Numerous rave reviews and compilation appearances helped to further the band's reputation even more. The next logical step was to make the band a full-time project. Van Dyne relocated to Virginia in January of 2003, and a live band was put together immediately. The addition of Chris Jones on second guitar marked the beginning of Arsis' live career, and by their forth show, Arsis was already opening for bands such as Kalibas, Pyrexia, and Mortal Decay. A number of offers from reputable underground metal labels were presented to Malone and Van Dyne during the summer of 2003, and it was decided by the duo to sign with Willowtip Records for the release of their first album. Look for the band's full-length debut, "A Celebration of Guilt", in stores March of 2004.
