Press Reviews
From the January 2002 issue of St. Louis Magazine:
My Turntable:
12 oz. Prophets
Since they burst onto the scene last year, local band 12oz. Prophets have been wowing listeners with their blend of blues, rock and soul. With a sound characterized by smooth guitar solos, funky bass riffs and soulful harmonies, Sean Skrbec, Dominic Thompson Jr., Vijoy Rao, Dave Vitale and Bill Immer are well on their way to tearing up the St. Louis music scene. We sat down with a couple of these up-and coming rock stars to see who they listen to when they’re not rocking out themselves.
“Stevie Wonder is in my stereo right now, along with Dave Matthews and the Police,” says drummer Rao. “They all seemed to write and perform music that transcends contemporary trends and talks to people rather than eras.”
“Counting Crows have always been a favorite of mine,” adds lead vocalist Skrbec. “I also really like the new album from Matchbox Twenty. Both have a unique sound that welcomes a new generation of musicians.”
If you’d like to hear more from the 12oz. Prophets, check them out live Jan. 5 at Off Broadway or Jan. 12 at the Spotlight Caf. Or log onto their Web site at www.12ozprophets.com.
