Artist History
supersparkle’99 hails from the musical hotbed of Orange County, California, carving it’s niche in the power pop arena with a blend of crunchy hooks and infectious melodies.
But the seeds were sown in the barren landscape of the Nevada desert....
Steve and Dig were part of the “Love #20 Revisited” touring musical that was weaving it’s way across the Southwestern US. Discontent with the lack of commercialism offered by the musical, they were searching for a new creative outlet.
As the result of an automotive mishap involving the tour bus (actually a ‘76 AMC Pacer), a tumbleweed and a hallucination, the pair found themselves stranded at the curiously named Lounge Lizard Lounge. The duo ducked inside to escape the heat and landed in the lap of density. I mean destiny.
Appearing onstage in the middle of an unprecedented 2-night stand was local legend, Begas Rich. With a casual blend of lounge and metal, Begas had the edge Steve and Dig were looking for. After a round of Highballs and Cherry Bomb Martinis, the duo jumped onstage to join the rapture. In an unprovoked flurry of herkies and stick twirls, Begas realized this was the kind of stupid abandon that he was missing.
When the feedback finally ended, the three forged a pact to share their musical mayhem with the masses. One problem existed, a critical piece of the puzzle was missing.
Once again, fate took the reins. The good Dr. Dirge was in town to present his seminar; Backhair Transplants: Not Just For Men Anymore. Facing an onslaught of malpractice suits, he knew he needed a more forgiving occupation. As a witness to the cacophonous din perpetrated by the others, he knew what he had to do. He regained his composure and introduced himself to the newly formed musical unit as the missing link.
The line-up was now complete and the future was wide open. The first song performed that night was a hyper-charged version of The Captain and Tenille’s ‘Love Will Keep Us Together’.
Fast forwarding to today finds supersparkle’99 entertaining crowds with onstage antics, solid musicianship, really cool blinky lights and a fog machine. Daring to touch on such sensitive topics as gold diggers, spoiled brats and fat chicks, the band has given a voice to those that are too drunk or too stupid to speak for themselves. And while it’s all about the art, the band is not above bribing audiences with free CDs, Jagermeister giveaways, and other corporate goodies.
supersparkle’99 is intent on conquering the musical landscape and procuring as many sponsorships as possible. Join the excitement before they sellout completely and self-destruct.
(Although you will be able to catch them on the inevitable “Reunion” tour.)
