Artist History
Hailing from
Northern California's now infamous Sacramento music scene comes RELEASE, a
four-piece band from the Rocklin - Roseville area. The creators of this sound,
Danny Herb (Vocals/ Guitars), Scott Kaseman (Guitars/ Backup vocals), Dan
Tuturici (Bass), and Robbie Nelsen (Drums) have come from extremely different
sonic realms, and the songs likewise reflect this. Understanding this without
hearing it works best by looking at their most significant influences: U2, A
Perfect Circle, and Incubus, among others, and draw a strong energy from punk/
hardcore bands like At the Drive In, Glass Jaw, and Refused. Combining these
with individual artists like The Edge and Bjork to Vinnie Colaiuta, Release
produces a thick, emotional sound that makes it difficult to forget once you
hear them. "It's a breath of fresh air whenever we write a song", explains
guitarist Scott Kaseman, " none of the songs ever seem to make us feel like we
are in a rut, and when a new one DOES come along, we always feel like we are
progressing in one way or another." Progress is indeed something Release has
always been well acquainted with. Starting in early 2000 Scott Kaseman and Dan
Turturici (Bass) began to play together late night at Dan's home after each
other would get off work. "We'd play for five days a week, and one night I just
stopped beating around the bush and told him we should start taking this the
next level", says Scott. After finding a drummer and then a vocalist, they began
playing under the name Foreshadow at local clubs. In December of 2000 they
changed their name to Release, and in addition to that, a new singer, Danny
Herb, was brought on. "Hearing him [Danny] for the first time," says Robbie
Nelsen (drums), "I thought that something really unique was happening as a
result of his contributions, and I would have felt very privileged to be able to
collaborate with them." Robbie had that chance to do so in the summer of 2001,
when he was approached to join the band. "I just wanted to jam with them as an
experimental thing, but once the first practice was over, I knew it was not as
much about whether I was going to jam with them again, but more about how I
would tell my current band that I was changing projects." After only two
auditions, Robbie Nelsen had become the new drummer of Release. "The reason
behind the name is pretty straightforward", explains Danny. "For us the sound
becomes the result of whatever has been coursing through us that day". Be it
anything from their daily lives, it's very real for them and they try to convey
that in their music. "We are very real people who are doing this because this is
what we were made to do." |
