Artist description
Every once in while, and it's been awhile since we’ve seen the last, a band comes along that breaks down the barriers. PurPeLoid is that band. They create good straight rock n’ roll with a twist. It’s an alien thing and unless one buys the record or goes to a show, you just aren’t going to get “it”.
“It” is a unique experience, as any PurPeLoid fan can attest. Smoke machines, heavy light show, and surprises at every turn. Elements of progressive rock mixed with grunge, and pop melodies alongside heavy moments of electronica, fill out PurPeLoid’s sound. This is not something that you will find anywhere else in a musical group today. Guaranteed. One moment you are blown away by the depth and groove, the next you shake your head in wonderment at the shear confidence of this band.
“It’s almost as if these guys were frozen in time and brought out when Rock n’ Roll needed weed, women and song the most.” SonicMonk
It was a meeting of the musical minds and a mutual vibe that brought PurPeLoid together. Front man Mic’l Wolf (lead vocals) honed his talents fronting the European hard rock act Bloodstone, touring primarily in and around Amsterdam. Guitar riffing brothers Robbie and Neal Lodestar hailed from Brother Vibe. Tom Koncan (drums) built his beats with bands such as Rubbersnake and Big Smile, and Calvin Beale (bass) tightened his chops as an R&B player with groups such as Kardinal Offishal, Maestro and Ivana Santilli. Dave Klotz (keys) is a live performance veteran who was recently involved with Hayden Creative.
Original members, Wolf and R. Lodestar came together about a year ago, and within three months, had completed enough material for three albums. Euphoraphonic is the debut. Recording the album during eight weeks in August and September, PurPeloid brought on hand the best of the best to create this album. Dave Schiffman (Rage Against The Machine/Chris Cornell, Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction and Nine Inch Nails) produced the tracks at Metalworks in Ontario and mixed at Cello Studios in LA.
Eddy Schreyer (Offspring, Alice In Chains and Jane’s Addiction) mastered the tracks down at Oasis in L.A.
PurPeLoid will be releasing their debut CD Euphoraphonic on May 7, 2002 on Linus Entertainment with distribution and promotion through Warner Music. The CD has already yielded two #1 Psychedelic Rock tracks, including a Top Ten ranking in Rock on Mp3.com, and the fans have been responding in droves. The response speaks for itself:
“Whoa!!!! Great Music” (Denver, CO) , “Loved it! I Like your style” (Germany)
“You guys Rock!!” (L.A., CA) , “Great, Really Great!!” (San Francisco, CA)
“Your music is rocking us while we work” (UK)
“Cool! Keep it Coming” (Sweden) , “Great! Stay with that sound” (Toronto, CA)
“Thanks for keeping the Rock in Rock n Roll” (Broomfield, CO)
The first single, The Big One, will hit radio on April 8th and the video, directed by Phil Price and produced through Blink Pictures, will be delivered to Muchmusic around the same time.

Press Reviews
"The band was so intense, it required a group of kids bussed in from the suburbs to make enough noise to balance the vibes." Jaymz Bee, myto.com
I have this friend named Mic'l Wolf who I always thought had it all. He's got a nice family, hot wife, big house, and fast car. Well, it appears he didn't quite have it all. Now, he does have it all. Wolf is the lead vocalist of a great new band called PurPeLoid, whose debut at the Reverb was spectacular. Too bad the crowd wasn't. They loved it all right; but the band was so intense, it required a group of kids bussed in from the suburbs to make enough noise to balance the vibes. If that was their first gig, you can bet I'll be keeping an eye on them. You should too! |
