Artist History
After a 1986 stint with the early lineup of The Children's Zoo, former Naked and the Dead drummer David Patti formed The Ochrana in 1987 with moody vocalist Guy Richards Smit. Adding flange-crazed guitarist Arrow Kleeman and fellow Lismar habitue Diane Davis on bass, the young quartet recorded four songs in October 1987 ("Eastern Bloc Baby," "Turnabout," "Why," and "Angalique") and one more in summer 1988 ("Empty"), while performing throughout 1988 at various venues in their hometown of New York City, occasionally with mentors Of a Mesh. After the band dissipated in 1989, Smit formed WipSaw, and later became a famous Brooklyn-based performance artist, video artist, and painter (Smit's thought-provoking work, such as the popular "Ballad of Bad Orpheus," has been reviewed in "The New York Times," "Artnet," and "The Village Voice" among others). In 2002 David Patti reformed The Naked and the Dead, now defunct again. |
