Artist History
Eddie A. Seawood Jr., is another from a long line of musicians and vocalist to originate from the state of Mississippi. An award winning vocalist and songwriter, his career started after winning amateur night at a local nightclub in Jackson, MS. By 1991, he was becoming a household name in the area. “Seawood”, as he is known by friends and fans, was named “Background Vocalist of the Year” by the Jackson Music Awards Association. He Subsequently won “Best New Artist of the Year”, and gained national recognition during an airing of Jackson State University’s Homecoming celebration on BET-Black Entertainment Television.
Seawood’s career continued as a vocalist at several local and regional concerts. In addition, Seawood has become the defacto standard by which all other male vocalist in his hometown are measured. This reputation has presented opportunities to open for many acts including Jodeci, Sinbad, Levert, Brian McKnight, Gap Band, The Ojays and many more.
After singing on dozens of demos by local producers, Seawood teamed up with Tyrone Armstrong and Ray Smith whose music appeared in several movies and soundtrack albums including “New Jack City” and “Above the Rim”, which included the hit single “Anything” by SWV.
Seawood’s first single “Another Lonely Night” became a hit and won him the 1995 JMA “Song of the Year” and “Male Vocalist of the Year”. With all the attention the record industry is giving Mississippi, its no surprise that Seawood would be in the thick of things. “Wildlife Society”, a Jackson, Ms premier rap group on the M/Blunt label, also featured Seawood on an album.
Presently, Seawood’s debut album titled “I Sing” on the Airtight Records Label is blazing the charts in his hometown and the southern region. His single, “Don’t Hate the Playa” was heard by millions on the Tom Joyner Morning Show when it was hand picked by comedian/ personality J. Anthony Brown as a testimonial to living the single life.
