Press Reviews
This is another one of the several DIY demos I've reviewed this month. Blue Skygoodbye play a blend of melodic pop punk and emotional harmonies. Bands must be getting good pretty quick these days because these guys have the potential to be signed. They need to accumulate some more material first, though. The four songs on here are very well written. The material is relatively simple and yet offered in a detailed manner. The guitars here are angst-fueled and each song has a distinctive touch. There is definitely some Weezer influence here and I think they personally have that Lobster Records sound mixed in there like Staring Back or Park. The band has been together a year so I don't see any shortcomings at this point. They are way ahead of the game and this demo proves that. I don't see any reason why you won't see these guys with a labeled release within the next year. The only thing I didn't care for is the web site. I'm about sick to death of Flash. Anyway, it's at www.blueskygoodbye.com.
I recently saw a sweet show by a local band named Blue Sky Goodbye. They played at a small club called Rhino's in Bloomington, Indiana on Feb. 22. Rhino's is kinda one of those dark, dank, back alley clubs. But the sound set up is decent and it has the perfect atmosphere to see local bands take the stage and show their stuff. Blue Sky Goodbye is a emo/pop punk band with catchy lyrics, good music, and plenty of youthful energy. The band consists of four members: Reid, Jeff, Paul, and Zach. Reid Crandall plays guitar and is the lead singer of the band. He has a very strong, but unusual voice. Not bad unusual, it's actually a very good thing because it distinguishes him from so many of the everyday local punk bands now flooding the scene. Zach Sears is the lead guitarist and he can lay down some mean licks. Zach gives the band a healthy boost and the audience a kick in the pants with his skills on the guitar. Jeff Dawes, "the master of all that is low" (borrowed from the website) handles the bass, and takes over vocals in a few tracks. This gives the band some depth, as Jeff sings with emotion and style. Paul Moore is at the back on stage, but rest assured you'll know he's there. His energy explodes on the drums, arms thrashing, setting the rythm for the band. I strongly suggest you check out their website, www.blueskygoodbye.com It's filled with facts about the band including booking information, up and coming shows, mailing contacts etc.. It also has cool pics, mp3 downloads, and some merchandise.
The featured band for this month is Blue Sky Goodbye. They are Reid, Paul, Zach, and Jeff. This Indiana band were formerly known as Anthem Boy, played hardcore with Paul and Reid in the band. Now, BSG, they sound different, playing alternative rock with their new line up. They are just super-awesome! It's really hard to describe who they actually sound like. What I can say is that they sound originally like Blue Sky Goodbye themselves. But if you have heard bands like Motorway to Roswell, One More Weekend, or ATTENTION: and actually liked them, you will sure to like Blue Sky Goodbye. Go to their website. They have a great design and it's really impressive that it was done by the band. As far as I know, Reid designed it. I really enjoyed every section of the site and yes, I actually browsed everything! They are fuckin awesome! Go check them out now!
