Artist description
7-9 Split is an innovative and ambitious 4-piece rock and pop outfit based in Oxford.
The contrasting yet complementary song-writing styles of charismatic front-man Ray Lockton and experienced lead guitarist Alan Wright provide an unusual creative edge. The resulting material, designed to blend the gritty and soulful vocal talents of Lockton with soaring rock guitar riffs, is brought to life by the drive and energy of funky bassist Nick Kenrick and accomplished drummer Daniel Fletcher.
This hard-working band is dedicated to promoting its material through live performances, and having having recently enjoyed a run of tight and extremely well-received gigs on the popular student scene, the group now feels ready to focus on bringing their music to a wider audience through high-profile gigs and studio recordings. |

Press Reviews
Oxford Student:
"7-9 Split lit up the evening with their assured blend of funky originals interspersed with classic pop and rock tunes. This accomplished four-piece outfit is fronted by Ray Lockton's charismatic vocals and Alan Wright's scorching guitar playing, with Nick Kenrick laying down the funky bass-lines and the skillful Dan Fletcher driving the performance with energy and verve from the drums. The highlights from a very tight and exciting hour and a half were probably from amongst the band's own impressively varied material; the wistful and reflective 'Passive', the Chilli Peppers-esque '3 Miles South' and the triumphant 'The Way We Love', to name just a few. Crowd-pleasing classics, such as 'Mustang Sally', 'Come Together', 'Crossroads' and 'All Right Now' rounded off the evening in fine style, leaving the crowd begging for more." |
