Artist History
Representing the Midwest, the Rocky Mountains and the state of Texas, four individuals embarked on a journey taking them to destinations never expected. The story of One-Eyed Jack begins in 1989 in a party house at Pepperdine University, fondly referred to by its residents as "Skid Row". Mike Arambel and Scott Kolka were placed as roommates in this dorm upon arrival at Pepperdine. This circumstance allowed the two to jam on a daily basis, and just a few months into school a chemistry began to brew. Many a friend stopped by to have a beer and hear their songs; songs that would later become the foundation of One-Eyed Jack's set list. Fast forward three years to 1992. Scott happened to be taking guitar lessons right before Doug Clark, a bass player was actively looking to join a band. It was one day between their lessons that Doug was extended an invitation to jam with Mike, Scott and Tim Moss, a drummer with whom they'd recently been practicing. A simple jam called the "Rocky Mountain Stomp" was the first song wrtten by this group, which would shortly after adopt the name One-Eyed Jack. Recognizing a chemistry within their ranks, the group began writing songs. A graduation party for a friend was One-Eyed Jack's first public showcase. It wasn't long into the first set when a wild mosh pit broke out during what became a 20 minute rendition of the "Rocky Mountain Stomp". With this gig, One-Eyed jack started down the long road to establishing a fan base of not only friends, but of people who were attracted to this band that believed in a song over a solo and an attitude over an image. With a continued strong show of support, the Jack spent four years playing in the L.A. area, from venues as small as the legendary Natural Fudge Company, to clubs as large as the Roxy. It was during this time that Doug's brother Steve, moved to L.A. from Boston (where he was at the Berklee College of Music) and took over drum duties for the band, as well as producing the tracks you're hearing here. Thanks for listening and support your local musicians. |
