Artist description
About the artists of Airdreams (Rusty Garner & Rosemarie O'Bourke).........Having started a musical career as a symphony musician (bassoon) and ethnomusicologist, Rusty spent 15 years as a CEO for several arts groups and presenting venues. His interest in Native American music goes back to his graduate years at New England Conservatory of Music where he launched a number of studies of traditional music due to curiosity about his own distant Cherokee and Lakota heritage. After becoming acquainted with the music of R. Carlos Nakai during his presenting years, Rusty pursued his love for the music when he first bought a cedar flute during a trip to the Southwest in 1992. His interest has deepened through the years resulting in this first album released in 1997 and a projected second album tentatively titled Canyons and Rivers. Rusty currently teaches music and theatre and is Coordinator of Technical Services at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Florida.........Rosie's life has been inextricably linked to music since her birth. Her mother was an accomplished concert pianist in her native Cuba. Her first lessons were with her mother. After escaping Castro's regime as a young girl, Rosie came to the USA where her great talent as a pianist were only a prelude to the respect she earned as an actress/singer. Her degrees in music and theatre from the University of Florida, St. Louis University and her acceptance into the prestigious MFA program in theatre at Case-Western Reserve University gave her an extraordinarily well-rounded training as a performer. She currently shares this wealth of experience with her own students at Gulf Coast Community College where she is Chair of the Division of Visual and Performing Arts. |

Artist History
Since 1992, we have played wherever the mood has struck us...or where people have asked very nicely. We often perform for festivals or arts gatherings and an occasional ceremony or wedding. We also enjoy going into elementary schools and communicating something about what music means to us to young people. Our favorite playing is often in some spectacular location in the Southwest (Grand Canyon, Chaco Canyon, and of course Mesa Verde) for ourselves and the birds (and an innocent bystander or 30). |
