Press Reviews
SPHINCTER never really got themselves lost in that whole 'bunch of kids mucking around in a garage' stage that so many highly developed big names evolved from. Their previous release, "Panty Cakes," whilst not a perfect EP, was still a crackin' little disc highlighting the guys' ability to knock out some very cool ska pop tunes that begged for repeated listens. "Rolled On The Thighs Of A Virgin" is pretty similar, but it seems a combination of age and experience has formed SPHINCTER into a mellower and, dare I say it, mature unit. This is a very nice EP indeed. Gone are the songs about pornography and old children's television characters as we welcome heartfelt nostalgia trips about forgotten youth and failed relationships that I'm pretty certain anyone could relate to with a vengeance. While there's plenty of fresh vibes wafting about its person, "Rolled On The Thighs…" still caters for the 'old school' SPHINCTER fan with a toned down version of the legendary "Two Way Thing," a song which has quickly become one of my favorites of 2001. I must have listened to it at least thirty million times upon receiving this disc. With its three-chord solidarity and sing-a-long chorus charisma, it's an instant winner, along with this EP in general as a matter of fact. Watch out for SPHINCTER next year, this release will see their dedicated fan base quadruple over night and bring a large grin to all their friends and family. SPHINCTER's hour is upon us… 'Slick' Nick Smith; Pastepunk.com, UK Co-ordinator
