Artist History
Otispunk is a heart pounding, original, rock/pop band based out of Pennsylvania in the Philadelphia suburbs. With musical influences such as No Doubt, Weezer, Coldplay, The Monkees, and Jimmy Eat World, their style is fresh and unique with a blend of high energy rock. The two original creators of Otispunk, Krista (vocals, guitars, songwriter) and her sister Dana (drums), shared a common bond all their lives with performing. They realized that they also shared a love for music and a need to create their own. In the Spring of 1999 Krista purchased her first guitar. Having taken piano lessons as a child eased her into learning the dynamics of the guitar. Dana, on the other hand, having purchased her first learners drum kit out of a J.C.Penny catalog, had the desire and determination to tackle the drums. The girls got themselves together and in December of 2001 officially formed and named the band Otispunk. Since then they have played such venues as The Theater of Living Arts (Philadelphia PA), The Pontiac Grille (Philadelphia PA), The Bensalem Battle of the Bands, in which they won 2nd place, and have graced morning listeners on Philadelphia’s New Rock Y100’s morning show.
In the Fall of 2002 Otispunk traveled to the Clay Creek Studio, where they worked with Nick Rotundo to record their five song EP titled “Look Back and Laugh”. The EP includes five original tunes that communicates to every listener that hears it. Krista, being a classically trained vocalist, contrasts to the rock being played by the guitars, bass and drums. It is an infectious sound that melds together which is matched by none and is purely original.
In the winter of 2003, Zack (bass) joined Otispunk. Since then, the revised three piece took a more serious and sophisticated approach. They continue to write music and remain dedicated in their quest to fulfill their passion for music. You can catch Otispunk’s music being played on Y100’s YNOT on Sunday nights and at many venues surrounding the Philadelphia area.
