Artist History With the band’s debut CD, AND NOW I CAN SEE, produced by Scott Kempner of the Dictators, released independently in August of 2000, they are quickly rounding up a loyal following throughout the area. The band has been enjoying increased interest. Since then the release of their CD, Underwhelmed has had 2 tracks included on the soundtrack to Winstar feature film ALL SAINTS DAY, including “Devoted” and an unreleased song called “Stare”. Their new popularity has been helping land the band opening spots for multi-platinum artist like Sponge. Originally formed in 1994, with now lead singer, Chris Amplo on drums. Young and unfocused at the time, the original band began losing structure and inevitably ended. Soon after, Chris was introduced to the current members of the band, Paul Boyle (rhythm guitar) and Mike Russo (bass). In December of 1999 UNDERWHELMED acquired John Bruno (lead guitar) and Lou LaRossa (drums). Traces of bands like U2, Pearl Jam and Live are hidden in UNDERWHELMED’S sound. It’s aggressive hard rock without guitar solos. Well, there are a few, but they are more like an instrumental extension of Chris’ voice. It’s loud, commanding and anthemic without ever being pandering or overwrought. ‘AND NOW I CAN SEE’ gives listeners the complete package. Songs like 'Silhouette' and 'Devoted' push and pull at you from the inside. Fast and hard driving. Other featured tracks like “Flesh and Blood’ show a more delicate song, where Chris’s voice whispers and shakes and guitars seem to extend right into the melody. Live performances are one of UNDERWHELMEDS strongest assets. Energy, emotion, and mood are this bands building blocks. The shows are intense and exhausting for the band and the fans. The huge sounding, high-energy shows are truly what is winning fans over today and will for years to come. After years of honing their craft, both in the recording studio and on the stage, UNDERWHELMED has began to bring it out of the garage. With plans for a heavy tour and showcase schedule, UNDERWHELMED is looking to win over an army of new fans and secure their first recording contract. Having been influenced by some of the most successful act of yesterday and today UNDERWHELMED is certainly ready to take its place as one of the most successful up and coming act of today.
