Artist History The receptive response of Raw Intel’s 1999 debut release, "Universal Law," earned them the Buffalo Music Award for Best Hip-Hop/Rap Group; the first self-produced CD displayed a mature song writing skill that is rarely found in a local band's first releases. Receiving regional acclaim, awards and other various accolades added to the group’s confidence level, however R.I. did not put any expectations on their music. They just make music that is true to themselves and the fans they have acquired since their debut. That album also earned the group a demo deal from Sr. VP of A&R Merlin Bobb and Elektra Entertainment. Even though Elektra Entertainment opted to pass on signing Raw Intel, they could not deny the authenticity of the product. Undeterred, R.I. continued to do shows, work with other independent artists, and write and produce new material. By the fall of 2000, they were back in the studio making their latest masterpiece "Take Notes Lp". If Raw Intel were to ask that you recognize one thing, its just good music. That’s all we made it to be and no one has to be forced to like "good music." And no one’s forcing people to like them or their sound, especially being that they were again in October 2001 nominated for 2001 Buffalo Music Awards Best Hip-Hop/Rap Group and Best Producer(s), winning the 2001 BMA award for Best Producer(s).
