Artist History
Smoke Up jOhnny is a rock band from the Seacoast
area of New Hampshire. The name comes from that
neo-classic 80's cinema flick, The Breakfast Club.
A quote delivered by Judd Nelson's character, John Bender,
in reference to a Christmas present he received from his
old man says it all.
Smoke Up jOhnny, or SMUj for short, came in
to being in the fall of 2001. Through the summer
of 2001 Thomas Ferry and jOhn Morse had collaborated
on some ideas but the time was not yet right for them
to launch a project.
As the summer progressed into fall the itch to
play got to them. They decided to recruit a
drummer and bring Smoke Up jOhnny to life.
After a short stint with original drummer
Chris Hanzl, the boys called old friend and
fellow 69 Franklin alum Scott Harris to sit in
and jam. By the first pee break that night, they
were a band.
With the lineup now intact SMUj took the
remainder of 2001 to write, rehearse, and
record a three song demo. 2002 promises to
be a great year for Smoke Up jOhnny as they
jump into the local music scene with amps a-blazing.
