Artist History
Durham super group ‘Merrick (1862)’ was spawned from a mixture of hardcore metal, emocore nu-metal, funk rock & homophobic homosexual ladyboys.
Psy, former guitarist & dogs body of the underground Durham hardcore ‘death’ metalers ‘Skin Trench’, formed ‘Merrick (1862)’ with former squealer of Newcastle’s now defunked funk/thrash rockers (no rapping involved thank funk) ‘Flysville’, Stuart McKenzie.
In the early winter days of that unforgettable year, 2001, Psy & McKenzie started to get together (in a non-sexual way……..damn) to write songs, songs to uplift the mixed up & outcast youth of the 21st century, but failed and started work on “METAL”. They then asked ‘Flysvilles’ 20 fingered bass god, Rob Rob the Bass-man (Robert Seymour) to join them. A second guitarist was talked about & ‘Skin Trench’ hopeful….erm some git, we’ll call him ‘Sven’, came to a jam but got on everybody’s tits and could only play with one finger. So no, ‘Sven’ is no longer with us but we wish him the best on using two fingers some day.
Psy & McKenzie wrote & recorded at the same time in hope to get kids bopping to a new kinda beat. With the E.P simply named ‘Merrick (1862)’ on its way with three humdingers of modern rock ‘n’ roll on it, the band was looking forward to see how the girls & boys were to think of it.
Track one, ‘Last Target’ is a disturbing & twisted tail of woe, with a catchy riff & an even catchier chorus this is probably Psy & McKenzie’s most mainstream song to date. ‘Last Target’ was also the first song from the deadly duo.
Track two, ‘You’ is a song from the inner pain we call ‘love’ it is also a tail of woe, it’s a crunchy ordeal with a six stringed bass line from…..yes you guessed it, our very own slapper, Rob Rob The Bass-Man.
Track three, ‘Clockwork Psychos’ is a seven minute tail of the human mind in a state of nutty-ness & intense pain of lonely-ness. Check out the music box solo from Psy.
Plus for the E.P only ‘Sleep’, originally a ‘Garage Girl’ track has been Merrickinized and how phat it has become.
‘Last Target’, ‘You’ & ‘Clockwork Psychos’ are all their for you freeloading superstars to bop via the power of the world wide web, what will they think of next.
Mummy Merrick & daddy Merrick had what some mite say a night of passion & has given us a new member of the ever growing Merrick family. Former ‘Skin Trench’ guitarist & sometimes hard man look-a-like Chris Dunnington has become Merrick (1862) live guitarist, look out for ‘The Godfather’ on a stage near you soon.
Yet another Merrick family member & album sleeve designer Phillip Hockaday has written a radio movie in witch Psy & McKenzie have given the musical talents to.
OUT SOON from Blind Theatre recordings, ‘Merrick (1862)’ by ‘Merrick (1862)’ & the ‘Experiments Of Terror’ original soundtrack by ‘Merrick (1862)’
