Artist History
Matt Gorny and Erik den Breejen both had songs that they had
written, and they thought about retiring. One of them played guitar, the other one keyboard. They
both sang, or so they thought. Previously they had each fronted bands in which they
were the primary vocalists and songwriters, this let their egos flourish and promptly left all the others aliened and bored. Matt fronted BlowUp, Erik
fronted the Strand. After these groups dissolved, it occurred to
each of them that they might want to try a more collaborative
approach, in other words; they were desperate and lonely.
They found each other in Brooklyn through shared
interests and began playing each other's songs together, and sex was NEVER in the equation... except for the odd dip in the outdoor hut tub.
A rock ensemble was their desired goal, mind you this was a secondary goal, as they desperately wanted female attention, so a rhythm section was needed.
After much searching and blank shots, they found a couple of real live bulletts
in Matt Terrell on the drums and Rob Fellman on bass. Matt Terrell came to see a show with a stand in drummer and got the itchy palms to bring his hard-hitting Keith Moon style to the right place. So he stopped shaving his arms, left the fishnet stockings in the closet and joined the band.
Rob Fellman is the diamond in the rough of Import. Found wandering in a park, reading Chaucer or some other overrated literary "genius", he never before played in a band, although he's been playing bass secretly for years, afraid that his passion would be discovered by his alter ego - Robespierre; the notorious dead frenchman.
So now you know a little bit about them Import guys.
And now an excerpt from as yet unpublished biography of Import to be featured in their VH1 debut, coming to you in the near distant future:
"...Once assembled, the band took on the name of Import,
stemming from the band's interest in British rock groups past and present.
All of the musicians shared a similar energetic drive and understanding
of the musical ideas developing. As the players worked together,
their group sound started to emerge.
From this platform, Gorny and den Breejen began writing songs
specifically for the ensemble. The concept of Import's Charisma Rock
came about at this point, driving them on.
Another interesting development that came from this is that the two
songwriters began writing songs together, something both of them had
wanted to do, but hadn't had the opportunity to do before. The
result is a band that is not one artist's vision and a handful of
musical assistants, but a thriving musical organism made up of four
people."
As you can see this is still a work in progress, so feel free to comment and critique this little pompous piece, and we shall put on our smoking caps and deliver you from evil.

Press Reviews
"Fueled by 'I Should Coco'-era Supergrass and unapologetic whiffs of Blur-y Pulp, Import are Brooklynites who long for misty days across the Atlantic, so much so that some vocals slur towards accents where they ought not... this is a band of Brit-a-be bandits... the perks? Happy go-lucky showmanship and real live go-go dancers."
