Artist description
Scratchy demos of guitar compositions recorded on a rickety old pc. There is quite a good deal of half decent playing let down by the lack of pc recording know how. That said I like these "wart and all" demos. |

Artist History
At 18 years of age I bought my first guitar, a very nasty 'Satellite' Gibson E335 copy (complete with tremolo style neck). Six months of playing sub Velvet Underground styled white noise and I joined my first band 'Priority One' (Crap name crap band).
Later using some of the musicians (a loose analogy) we started 'Suspect Device' which was basically a 3-piece punk band 10 years too late (1986).
I did get to play on a few minor punk type releases (CD's where invented then) as a 'session lead player'. That was not a reflection of my talent, just an indication of the lack of it in the bands I was helping.
I joined a band called the BIG RAT in 1987 which was my first attempt at playing pop music. We lasted a year and became quite good but the singer, god bless him, was so delusional he went solo. He later became a comedian (Andy Pipe).
I then joined a pub rock cover band and immediately discovered how important it was to talk to classically trained keyboard players. I couldn't master ego massaging and lasted 3 weeks before he sacked me and the band self imploded.
1989 saw the reformation of Suspect Device for a couple of months. Then we sacked the drummer, got another, got a singer who really wanted to be a guitarist, a keyboard player who was really a bassist and finally a singer who was a psychopathic lunatic (nice bloke though). by 1990 we developed a fairly proficient sound with good material and promptly sacked the singer who would be guitarist and the keyboardist who would be bassist left by then too. By 1991 we had changed our name to Go-portjellico (??!), we had record company interest, famous guest producers, played to 2000 people at Portsmouth Guildhall and added a new member to the band (James the Raver keyboard player). Nothing could possibly go wrong...We split in 1992.
In 1993 after a benevolent act trying to get the ex Jellico bassist a job in a band called Suss. He bottled it and they made me do it (10 months of hell!). I quit in 1994 and they've been after me ever since.
1994 saw me stand in with the local crème de la crème cover band of the moment BIG brother SOUL for 2 weeks (the guitarist was on holiday) on the invitation of a former musical associate (the keyboardist who would be bassist). Playing in an 8-piece soul band to audiences that danced from the word go (and didn't boo) was a revelation. AND WE GOT WELL PAID! I was destined to be on the payola.
1995 I stood in again over the summer (yes - the guitarist was on holiday). $$$$$$$$$ heh heh! Later that year the BbS guitarist had a baby girl and left the band - I have been there ever since!
In 1998 however, a group of local musical idiots/alcoholics/posers (yes I was there too) got together and started up the worst tribute act in the world ever - 17 Crash (named after a LA Guns track). This 'band' was an unmitigated disaster from start to finish. Drinking more than we could afford, we celebrated the fact that we were soo awful it hurt! We promoted our motto to the fullest 'Style over Substance'. We barely survived our last gig 'Millennium Eve' but as always we broke bar taking records wherever we played.
2000 Was a big year for BIG brother SOUL and saw the line up increase to 10 members. The best way to forget about the experience that was known as 17 Crash. Also in 2000, I was involved in another musical project - an 80's band but after a few gigs this got moth-balled.
2001 Brought a hard choice to make - continue living on a meagre wage and having the time of my life or leave live entertainment behind and get a good job. After much thought and increasing debts I opted for the job.
So now what? Well my new job means I cannot play that often but this suits me fine at the moment - because armed with my guitars and this pc I am gonna write some songs and take over the world Mwah hahahahahahahahahah! |
