Artist History
Felicia Devile first began writing as a teen, keeping a secret diary of her teenage angst and filling her schoolbooks with poetry. She began publishing on the internet on Sam SmileyGoth's poetry page (alternative quality), before setting some of her work to music with her partner of some months, Darrel Pthisis.
Darrell Pthisis first began playing guitar aged 13, after hearing Iron Maiden's Seventh Sun Of A Seventh Sun and getting into Metallica as a result. He went on to form his first band, Obliviator, whose self-produced debut single, Demonstrify, gained significant airplay on local radio, specifically on the Deathmatch Unsigned segment of Dave Sorry’s weekly rock show on KRP-AM, Leeds and Bradford. The band played numerous gigs, culminating in the headline slot at the 1999 Wyke Flower Festival.
He later met Felicia Devile, and they soon became a band and an item; as he puts it, “She gives me something no other girl was ever willing to, but she’d kill me if I told you what it was”. Rabid Bats was made in Japan in 1995, came to England with a group of his brothers and was finally accepted into the home of Felicia Devile and Darrel Pthisis in 2000. Darrel, while respecting Rabid Bats’ abilities as a sequencer, is believed to have developed an icy relationship with the cute little backing track, suspecting a fetishistic love triangle for the affections of Felicia. She insists his fears are groundless, although she has been known to take Rabid Bats away with her on occasion for practice purposes, as she puts it.
