Artist History Acoustic guitars, sampled beats, harmonized vocals and introspective lyrics are what define the sound of Uncoiled. Started as a side project of singer/songwriter Dipendra Bagchee whilst playing in much more aggressive metal band, Uncoiled has until recently been a well kept secret. "It started out as some basic home recordings, stuff that didn't really fit with the type of music I was playing with my band at the time", Dipendra recalls, "I suprised myself by some of the songs that eventually came out." Like many teenagers in the early 90's Dipendra was a fan of bands like Metallica, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. "I was a typical 'rocker' kid I guess, that's when I started playing guitar." His influences weren't left to the current top 40 either. "My older brother and I used to share the same room - so when I was younger I had to put up with his loud music and - luckily for me - he had pretty eclectic taste." Add to the list of influences Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Rolling Stones, INXS and new wave bands like Depeche Mode and The Cure, and you have a pretty good idea where his music foundation was built on. "It was only pretty recently that I was finally exposed to the 'indie rock' scene. It was ironic that I hadn't really listened to it before, but that somehow the songs I was writing were in the same vein. Hearing bands like Onelinedrawing/FAR, Bright Eyes and Cursive really inspired me, and made me realize I had something that might be worth sharing." Uncoiled has just completed and is independantly releasing it's first full length album titled "Four Letter Words", a nine track summary of Dipendra's past two years. "Some of the songs are depressing, some are angry or apathetic - all those kind of emotions inspire me to write. I like to write about things I have a first person perspective to, even if I pull it into a third person perspective in the song. All in all I'm pretty happy with it. It's an honest album."
