    Artist History
Dial - 9 came together in the late summer of 2001 when guitarist/singer Chris Burks and drummer Chris Condon decided to work together and form a new band. Burks had recently re-located to the Jacksonville area from Tampa, and both saw a great opportunity for a good band to make an impact on the Jacksonville club scene. Condon had been looking for the right combination of musicians who wanted to play high-energy rock with a modern edge. The idea is to play music that the people who regularly go to clubs want to hear. Since the majority of those people are in their 20's and 30's, why not play the music they are most familiar with? Burks was a perfect fit, as his style and influences are a direct result of his love of early 90's bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. He is also strongly influenced by guitar icons Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Vocally, Burks aims for the likes of Robert Plant, Scott Weiland, Stephan Jenkins and Rivers Cuomo. To round out the lineup, Bass player John Palmer jumped into the mix. Palmer and Condon knew each other from a previous project they worked on together. Palmer has a wide variety of tastes and influences such as Sting, Charles Mingus, Flea and John Paul Jones. He is a versatile player, whether the song calls for an even, flowing bass line or a funky slap, Palmer can nail any style. This combines well with the solid foundation of Condon who was drawn to the drums by the late John Bonham, but also includes Chad Smith, Neal Peart, Tommy Lee and Stewart Copeland as big musical influences. Dial - 9 is a no-frills rock-n-roll band who takes the music seriously, but not themselves. The goal is to entertain with professionalism, good musicianship, lively stage presence and a good attitude. We're all gonna have a good time!
