Artist History
Originally formed and known as Vox from 1985-1988, Voices Unknown is primarily the duo of Gary Becks and Adam Kittle, although the band has had as many as four permanent members. The group is largely known for its approach of using a variety of playing styles (although the format generally remains classified as intelligent pop/rock) and innovative use of playing techniques. Voices Unknown is generally recognized as a band that has always been ahead of its time and not afraid to take chances of being esoteric in nature.
The band did not make an official album release while it was still known as Vox, but wrote and recorded numerous songs and played locally in the Washington DC area; they also saw some radio airplay during the period. Vox was upgraded to four members in late 1986 - this lineup consisted of Gary Becks on guitar and vocals, Adam Kittle on keyboards, Gavin Lurssen on bass and Charlie Evans on drums. Over the next three years the band would go through numerous personnel changes on bass and drums.
By 1990, Vox had renamed itself Voices Unknown and now consisted of its original two players, Gary Becks and Adam Kittle. In the same year, Voices Unknown unveiled "I Live to Rock-N-Roll", their only CD release during the first six year segment of the band's existence. Although the duo had shown a lot of promise in the local music scene by this time, Voices Unknown split up indefinitely in early 1991, and a 10-year hiatus followed.
In early 2001 Gary Becks and Adam Kittle made the decision to reform Voices Unknown in Los Angeles, and are currently working on a 14-song compilation of unreleased songs from their early days.
