Artist History
Boston's The Chase Scene is a band with only two things on its collective mind: rocking the world silly and having a damn good time doing so. Armed with music that is at once aggressive, emotional, mature and energetic, and with a live presence to match, these handsome lads have garnered much attention everywhere they’ve plugged in. The Chase Scene, known as Prizefighter until July 2001, was formed in late 1998 by three veteran members of the local hardcore/punk crowd: drummer John Ledoux, guitarist Joe Dufresne, and original bassist Peter deGraaf. After writing a few rock songs, they asked long time friends Mark Santoro (vocals) and Yoshio Shartin (guitar) to come to a practice or two, “to see if things might work out.” Musically, “things worked out” instantaneously. After months of diligent songwriting and practicing, the boys began to play as many shows as possible in the New England area and recorded the first of two self-released demos at the Small Church Studio in Boston with Mike Poorman (Hot Rod Circuit) and Brian Mcternan of the famed Salad Days Studio. While earning many comparisons to the likes of Sensefield, Samiam, and even the Foo Fighters, The Chase Scene’s unique mix of pop, punk, and rock, as well as their dynamic live performances, quickly attracted a substantial local following. After selling out of an initial run of 300 cassette demos, the boys headed back into the studio to record a batch of five carefully and painstakingly crafted rock and roll numbers. These were destined for a new CD demo, which to date has sold well over 1000 copies. All the while, the boys continued to bust their collective asses, playing numerous shows and music fests all over the Northeastern United States, with such nationally known acts as Weston, Thursday, The Movielife, The Explosion, Grade, Hot Rod Circuit, Error Type: 11, and Cave In.
The Chase Scene to this day continue to bring their catchy version of good old rock and roll to anywhere with a stage (and even some places without one), and with their newly released ep titled “The Great Divide EP” out now on All About Records, TCS plans to tour extensively throughout the year (including a full US rock extravaganza), and with the latest addition, Colin Spencer as the full-time bass player, there is no longer anything that can hold The Chase Scene down.
