Artist History
The Stickyback Spastics -
Formed by Ben (Ex-Weapon X/Others) and Paul (Ex-Senior Service/Ex-Joey Lambeth Presents Chevy/Ex-HiJinx and currently FSTY/ED-209) in the Spring of 2000, the Stickyback Spastics are a six piece ska punk outfit, who know how to play catchy riffs and write sing-a-long classics alike. Guitarist Alan (no previous bands) and drummer James (Ex-Weapon X/Ex-Kill Commercial) joined soon after, and the legacy that is the SBS was formed.
Shortly after getting together in Spring, the Spastics' were informed of their supporting slot on the upcoming gig in May supporting UK Ska band [spunge]. They shit their pants big time, but they pulled it off. A brilliant debut show, that earned them a few fans and confirmed their talent that was capable of making a dent in the tired UK Punk scene.
A few practices later in August they played a last-minute gig supporting Sugar Coma and Frog (under the name SBS), where, as well as getting pissed, played extremly well. Then, gig wise, a long break followed. The Spastics' were intent on developing new material. During this time period, they proceeded to record the now legendary Johnny Spud Demo. Only 5 copies of this demo were ever released, and only one member of the SBS owns one. Recorded in front of a few people closest to the Spastics', poor quality and zero producing led this demo to be an instant classic.
April 2001 saw the introduction of Brett (Ex-HiJinx/Ex-JLPC) into the band. His unique vocal talent, erotically brilliant dance moves and cool onstage rapport were an instant hit with fellow band members and fans alike. Future plans hope to bring the SBS a short tour of the South East and release the demo/EP 'Let's Do Stunts' (original working title 'Punk Night Out').
The Spastics' are currently writing new tunes to add to their phenomenal 30 minute set which scales all of the Pop/Punk/Ska/Hardcore levels. With such classics as "Thank You", "It's Great Being Me!" and "Punk Night Out", you, and they, can't seem to go wrong. Check them out...

Group Members
Alan Dungate - Guitar, New Shoes
After starting work in a mine after being bought up by a colony of dwarves in North London, Alan found that the mining life wasn't for him. Although he was very keen on the 'Hi-Ho' tune, this wasn't enough to keep him in the mines, so he decided to give music a go. However, Alan's original choice of instrument was the glockenspiel, but there was no place in the band for him, so he decided to try his luck on the guitar. He hasn't looked back since, though he still doesn't know what string plays what note...
Ben Nunn - Vocals, Guitar, Butt Hair
Years of scientific testing have passed, but it is still unclear what exactly 'Ben' is, and where 'Ben' came from. When he was first discovered some years back, busking at Dagenham East station, it was believed that 'Ben' was a guitar-playing monkey. Yet his knack for singing and his unrivalled prowess on the guitar have made that theory null and void. The tests continue...
Brett Davis - Vocals, Skanking, Other Noises
Singing since the day he was born, and dancing even longer, Brett is responsible for half of the Spastics' vocals. Unfortunately, Brett isn't actually able to sing, but, fortunately, no one has noticed. Keep an eye on him when he gets going: Like a hybrid between Buddy Holly and Patrick Swayze on Crack...
James Randlesome - Drums, Percussion, Pots & Pans
Without doubt, the most talented member of the band. Tormented for years by the voices and other noises in his head, James finally decided, 'If you can't beat them, join them' and proceeded to play along with them by bashing the living shite out of the objects closest to him. It sounded good. James still hears the voices, and still plays along with them, but coincidentally, the beat's he plays fit in with what everyone else is playing...
Paul Watson - Bass, Backing Vocals, Evilness
What can be said about Paul that hasn't been said before? The man is quite blatantly a genius. Constantly hooked up to an Absinthe drip to keep him going, Paul is under the impression that the Spastics' are a Drum & Bass band. We haven't told him otherwise. We like the results... |

Press Reviews
Extract from Cupid Stunts Fanzine 12/00:
Johnny Spud Demo - Stickyback Spastics:
Unknown punk/ska outfit the Stickybacks Spastics (great name) release this small demo consisting of their material from the past year: Singing about crude subjects and nasty rashes. Potential for great things is evident in this small release and the Spastics' shouldn't be ignored. Only thing letting them down is the quality of the recording. Next time if they to make a better recording they could make a dent in the tired UK punk scene.
Lockergnome MediaREPORT 28/1/2002:
Ska had a brief moment in the mainstream, thanks to a couple of crossover hits by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, but its ultimate place seems to be the underground, where true fans allow it to thrive without pretense. This UK band takes the punk/ska sound and kicks it into overdrive with a solid brass section, a crass sense of humor, and a gruff-voiced singer whose vocals mingle scat singing and screaming into something entirely new. |
