    Artist History
Formed in a high school art class 10 years ago, Red Giant have become a perfect symbiosis of cutting edge musical ideas and a tribute to the best music that has ever been played. Anywhere between the Big Bang and Red Giant, but nothing beyond... Red Giant has headlined all of the notable clubs in Cleveland, the Euclid Tavern being the most frequent venue. They have also opened for Voivod, Overkill, Mule, Fu Manchu, Zen Guerilla, Hawkwind, Tea Party, Nebula, Queens of the Stone Age, and Clutch, proving that they can dock at a variety of stations in rock. ave Wyndorf and Ed Mundell of MonsterMagnet have been quoted in several zines calling Red Giant " one of the best stoner rock groups playing today ." Outside of Cleveland, they have played El Mocambo in Toronto , and the Continental and CBGB's in New York City.

The soundtrack for the new millennium. Space Rock OD'd on hallucinogens. Hawkwind meets Helios Creed with the heaviness of Black Sabbath." ---- Flipside "The sound slips from a Black Sabbath influenced plod, to a hypnotic droning groove, to quiet sparse segments in a sonic flow that suggests a journey through a distant, alien terrain." ---- The Plain Dealer "Cleveland's Red Giant remind me somewhat of a modern Hawkwind. The interweaving of heavy riffs with outer space themes and interesting sound effects."---- Roadburn "If you love anything from Sabbath to Monster Magnet a bit of Clutch and Blue Cheer as you will hear in the opener '1960 Starchief'. This one has some incredibly catchy riffs and sounds." ---- Hammerhead Red Giant Ultra-Magnetic Glowing Sound MIA/ TEE PEE Here is more stoner or psychedelic music for those lovers of this wonderful sound that is really kicking up a storm again. It also hails from the state of Ohio that I had the chance to visit for 24 hrs last year. If you love anything from Sabbath to Monster Magnet a bit of Clutch and Blue Cheer as you will hear in the opener "1960 Starcheif". This one has some incredibly catchy riffs and sounds. More of this trippy sounds. The songs tend to be on the shorter side. More basic and to the point. Some tinges that could be considered commercial acceptable to some. "Pervert" is more in you face. Even a extremely open minded TOOL fan could easily dig it. Every track seems to have a cool catchy rhythm going on. ".865" is another that really shows that and it is one of the longer tracks. Definite more like an underground Monster Magnet. "Devils Of The Fall" has a more happy riff going. Then "Floor Girl" has a more fuzz laden darker quality. So they really try to keep you guessing how they are gonna serve their different brand of DOOM to you? "Thread" breaks out some acoustics and wild a weird sounds that will see those tokers raising their spliff to this. It's a fine experimental record for those into the new age of retro doom stoner sounds. At least they are late for the wagon to leave. For everyone who longs to recapture a bit of that good old Black Sabbath mystique, we recommend Ultra-Magnetic Glowing Sound (and, for maximum effect, a bottle of cheap whiskey). Red Giant doles out the sludgy, sizzling riffs, the vocorder-treated vocals and the fret-burning solos and rhythms in mass quantities, tempering them with just the right amount of industrial harshness. It's ultra-heavy space rock, kind of like what you'd get if Monster Magnet and Chrome collaborated on a concept double-LP about flesh-eating Martian warriors, complete with a gatefold jacket full of lurid Frank Frazetta artwork. Pretty damn lethal, in other words. Pop it in the player and watch the emo kids squirm. -- gz splendidezine.com
