Artist description
If you took the DNA of Scotty Moore and mixed it with that of Dick Dale you would have the sound of Ralph Rebel's guitar. Rebel's mastery of 1950s style rockabilly guitar combined with his skill at interpreting the 1960s Surf sound make records like Surfin & Rockin and Rockabilly Vampire modern classics. As the reknowed Surf DJ Phil Dirt of KFJC said in his recent review, "This surf-rockabilly restyling is spectacular... very well played and very originally arranged, these tracks offer another view of the rock instro / surf idiom." If you love guitar music then Ralph Rebel's discs are essential listening. |

Press Reviews
"It might be too early to print up buttons stating that "Rebel is God," but he's just this side of Cardinal in my book. Rebel thinks nothing of covering the holy works of surf guitar, like "Perfidia," "Rumble," "Pipeline," "Sleep Walk," et al, and making them his own. While the whole album is brilliant, you can tell that Rebel favors that top string twang. In his cover of Duane Eddy’s "Rebel Rouser," Rebel romances the western edge of the song, and he liked it so much that his own composition, "Half Pipe" also takes place in the same low-end string territory. This whole album is immaculately recorded with a heavy bass to give it a live feel. What Rebel's doing may not be that original, but the way he does it is pretty intense. Rather than aim for an original style culled from the obscure side of surf, Rebel charges headfirst into the classic territory and reminds us of why the surf guitar was so damn cool in the first place."
