Artist description
Matthew D. Guarnere (Gwar - nair - e), also known as M.D.G., is a virtual one-man band; a singer, songwriter, musician and producer. Truly an independent recording artist since the age of 16, his natural talent has been conditioned through countless hours of recording and producing his own music as well as many other local and international artists. Unique songwriting, thought provoking lyrics, powerful, highly distinctive vocal ability (spanning four octaves) and polyrhythmic instrumentation are all integral parts of M.D.G.'s music. With outstanding influences such as The Beatles, Todd Rundgren, King Crimson and Queen, his music could be classified as rock/pop/fusion with an experimental edge. "You Never Have To Grow Old My Dear (Song For Mercury)" is an authentic and emotional tribute to the late Queen lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury, that features a stunning vocal performance by M.D.G. "Grow Old" was painstakingly crafted over several months and serves as an honorable memorial to the bombastic music of Mercury & Queen. This amazing tribute can be heard on Guarnere's new CD entitled "M.D.G." released on his own independent label, What's Real Unlimited records.

Artist History
Growing up in Rochester, NY, Matthew D. Guarnere was exposed to music very early on due to his father's love for jazz vocalists. Fascinated by all things vinyl and electronic, Matthew, at age 5, began buying influential records with his $1.50 a week allowance. He and his brother would often record comedy sketches and original song ideas using mostly vocal techniques onto a little cassette machine. At age 6, Matthew was involved in a harrowing revolving door accident while on a family vacation in New York City. A pane of glass shattered in his face and lacerated Matthew's chin. "It was pretty traumatic for me when I was little," he remembers. "Every day for years people would look at my chin and ask me what happened. I had to tell that same story over and over again, but now I only have a modest scar and nobody really notices." Using the settlement money Matthew received from the incident 11 years later, he financed his first 8 track reel-to-reel tape recorder and small mixing console. As a teenager in the mid 1980's, Matthew was breaking in as a musician and recording engineer. He first excelled at playing drums and later taught himself to sing and play a number of other instruments while overdubbing parts one at a time in his studio. Upon his high school graduation, it was abundantly clear what M.D.G. was going to do with his life. In 1991, he established What's Real Unlimited, a proprietary recording service and independent record company. |

M.D.G. goes barreling down the seldom traveled path of substantial rock music at a time when the airwaves seem to need it most. His songwriting and production skills are unconventional and intriguing. |
