Artist History
Dying Midwestern got its start in March of the year 2000. Mike and Jason had been writing songs in Jason's apartment 6 months prior. In February, Mike called Kyle in Duluth and told him that he was looking to start up a new band and a few songs were already in the works. Kyle agreed to play drums, since he had played with Mike and Jason before in previous bands. The next step was finding the other half of the rhythm section. Tommy Rehbein of Wish Upon A Star new of a young lad named Josh. Josh got Mike's number from Tommy, met him at Wendy's and two weeks later marked the first practice for Dying Midwestern. Dying Midwestern have been playing shows around the Minneapolis area in last month with the likes of Wish Upon A Star, Red Light Go, Attention, Circle of Willis and Nuke. They have self-released two five song EPs and are now signed to Evil Owl Records. DM plans to tour and record new albums for your listening pleasure in the near future. Rock on.

Dying Midwestern
The Killing is Over Me
Evil Owl Records
Nathan Hall - Staff Reporter
Opening with a sample of a shallow grave being dug, This Killing Me Is Over is anything but subtle when it comes to cadaver references. With members scattered over various parts of Minnesota and recording on a shoestring budget in frontman Mike Cunningham’s basement, it’s a wonder their sophomore effort ever saw the light of day. But it’s a vast improvement over their self-released debut EP.
Put out by the good folks at Evil Owl Records (Earth A.D. & Circle Of Willis), Dying Midwestern’s maudlin punk sound bears more than a passing resemblance to Alkaline Trio, The Lawrence Arms, and others proudly waving the emo flag these days. Featuring a former member of now defunct local pop-punkers Suburban Core, pop sensibilities still shine out on the standout track “An Explosion.”
Dying Midwestern is also worth supporting for being part of The Night Time Is The Right Time Collective, a new booking co-op dedicated to resurrecting all ages shows here in the Twin Cities.
