    Artist History
The Breakshop began in 1998 in San Francisco, California when producer DJ F paired up with Clutch. Since then they have kept audiences astounded with their live sets by battling on 4 decks and incorporating live sax, drums, and vocals over greasy breakbeats. Playing such clubs as Bimbo's 365, Ruby Skye, Cat Club, Justice League, Beer Cellar, Mission Rock and Backflip (to name a few), alongside such DJs as Mark Farina, Jeno, Migs, Garth, Rick Preston, Ellen Ferrato, and Felix the Dog have earned them a healthy respect in San Francisco. Their last mix CD "Trance Warp Drive" received rave reviews in URB magazine (Aug01). Their debut original 12" release on Ideal Muzik entitled "Dive Into the Party" will drop in stores on December 25th, 2001.

Beat Mechanic DJ F hails from Florida (breakbeat capital of the states) and started his music career playing alto and tenor sax back in '88. While in Miami from '92-'96 he began spinning downtempo and hip-hop. Since he played bass, keys, sax, and flute the next logical step was to start producing his own material. Break Specialist Clutch, born in Brooklynn (top of the food chain), has played his lefty Fender Strat since his early days. Meeting DJ F in San Francisco he became interested in DJing. A true prodigy, he actually mixed two records perfectly the very first time he touched a set of Technics. His sets go from funky breaks to trance and back again through outer space. These two are the core of the Breakshop, but it wouldn't be complete without input from their other members. H-Bomb: Our lovely female vocalist. Disco diva turned electronic, a real angel on the mic. Duke Eckers: THE powerhouse drummer. He is comfy rocking breaks or playing Tool-esque odd meters. Super solid on e-drums or traditional kit. Chuck Diesel: The rhymes never stop flowing when Diesel is fueled up. His rich deep voice fits perfect over F's dark hip-hop and jungle beats.

URB magazine (Aug 2001) wrote: "I first encountered the Breakshop boys at a private San-Francisco after-party. Even though the main event was long since over, F and Clutch refused to let the vibe die. "Trance Warp Drive" finds the DJ duo shooting smoothly from breaks to trance, taking in BT and Tsunami One, Bedrock and others. While the two genres may seem disparate on the outside, it makes perfect sense when looking at them from inside this strong mix. Keep an eye out for these two." (Adam Douglas) Yellow Rat Bastard (Winter 2001) wrote: DJ F & Clutch Trance Warp Drive: Remember the first time you heard Sasha & Digweed's Northern Exposure project, when everyone accepted the Trance-Breaks style with open arms and minds? Ever since then the NY scene hasn't been so accepting of any Breakbeat albums until recently. Aong with this season's major breaks release from Kinetic (Adam Freeland, On Tour, 2001) comes the small independent releases such as Breakshop's Trance Warp Drive, a trance based, West Coast breakbeat release that touches upon the fun and free mentality that New York is just beginning to recognize once again. Even though the album is fully produced by F & Clutch, unlike Sasha & Diggers Northern Exposure project, it is also entirely mixed by the Breakshop crew to make a nice after-party soundtrack. This release may seem a little dated considering the pace at which NYC's dance scene evolves, but keep in mind that even though the East Coast may be watched for its standard of quality and performance, when it comes to freedom of fun and experimentation you have to give it up for the West Coast cats.
