Artist History
Got my first acoustic in '96. Growing up in a house where the music was polarised between my mum's Enya and my dad's Blues pretty much guaranteed my eclectic tastes. In '99 I couldn't enter a Guitar competition because I couldn't jam, so I spent the next few months learning to improvise and write riffs and loops on my cherry red electric guitar. One day I discovered multitracking software and drum sequencers, and started recording loop based music as something to jam too. (at that time I was jamming to my CDs, am I the only guy who plays an acoustic to trance music?) This was around the same time I got heavily into more artistic electronica, artists like Moby and Hooverphonic have been huge inspirations for me. I started to really appreciate the depth and drive of music.
So why does a good boy like me get involved in the thump-thump of electronic music? I feel that electronica has the greatest opportunity for artistic integrity as a musician. Other forms of music have hard and fast unbreakable rules, but electronica and pop have room to take inspiration from everywhere. Pop, however, has gotten a reputation recently for promoting butts and breasts with little concern for the cliched and derivative music they perform.
I try to write music that does things you wouldn't expect but still like to hear, and can satiate my unimpressive capacity for boredom. I hope you like listening as much as I liked creating. :) |
