    Artist description
Laura's sound is a patchwork of her favorite artists. Wilco, Ryan Adams, the Jayhawks, The Replacements, Lucinda Williams and Gram Parsons were big influences on her sound. As for the songs, Laura has developed an uncanny talent for creating infectious hooks and memorable lyrics. "People are always telling me about how they found themselves humming some song of mine for days after hearing it, or how they really related to a line from one of my songs. That's a huge compliment to me... it's my goal," she smiles. "I want to write songs that people can dig, but without being sappy or trite. I think I've learned how to do that, and I just want to keep getting better."

    Artist History
Is she the female Ryan Adams? The kid sister of Lucinda Williams? Or maybe just a devoted Wilco disciple? Hmm...however you think of her, singer_songwriter Laura Methvin is definitely carving out her rep as an amazing new voice in roots rock. Her knack for writing gritty, hook_laden tunes, together with her singular, unforgettable voice, are stealing hearts from coast to coast. Laura grew up in a house where, on any given day, you might hear Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones or The Pretenders. She started writing and performing original music in Atlanta, where she was the lead singer of The Cave Babies. Later she moved back to her native Florida and started a solo career in Tallahassee. As a solo artist, she's released two albums, Boy Meets Girl and, in 2000, Sweet Medicine; currently, she's working on her third record. Upon Sweet Medicine's release, songs from the CD immediately received heavy airplay on Tallahassee's famed college radio station, WVFS/V89, both in regular rotation and on their popular singer-songwriter show, "Legacies." Another radio station, WXSR, included two of Laura's songs on a compilation CD of up_and_coming Florida artists, called Locals Only 2.0.   In 2001, Laura took up a nomadic lifestyle, living and touring in different cities throughout the year. During a brief return to Atlanta, she performed at some of the city's best_known venues. Also during 2001, she was asked to appear on another compilation CD, this time a Juliana Hatfield tribute record. Juliana is one of Laura's idols, so she jumped at the chance. The tribute includes Hatfield covers by artists from around the world, from Texas to Sweden to Australia. Laura recorded a live version of Hatfield's "Cool Rock Boy" in Atlanta for the double_CD __ entitled Become What You Aren't __ which was released last fall. More recently, Laura spent some time in Los Angeles, performing and soaking up the SoCal music scene. Response from audiences at her appearances there was immediate and overwhelming. "I loved it there," she says of LA. "It felt like home from the minute I got there, and the crowds couldn't have been more appreciative. To tell the truth, all the way to LA, I was afraid it would be a city full of hard_core thrashers who didn't want to hear my rootsy stuff. But I was so wrong. Both the audiences and the music community in LA were the most supportive I've ever been a part of. It all made me feel like, Hey, I'm actually pretty good... like I'm really on the right track with my songwriting & performing. I found out I could actually hold my own with the big guys in Hollywood, and the audiences practically threw their panties at me. LA was a huge confidence booster for me, definitely."
