    Artist description
Brooklyn's Krackjack brings ominous psychology to its thundering, old school, punk-metal sound. Think Mudhoney, but more paranoid. Or Tool, but with OCD. Or perhaps Fugazi, but with more distortion. Krackjack was formed in fall 2001 when guitarist/lead singer Brandon Garrett teamed up with fellow power chord enthusiast Tim Solomon. Later, they were joined by Mike Espar's furious drums, unhinged backing vocals, and his deep affinity for the absurd. Someone else adds focus and serenity on bass. Like heavy metal haiku, Krackjack's lyrics are at once profoundly simple and profoundly disturbing: "all my promises are lies" (sung with glee), "blow the candles out, and make a death wish." Over pounding guitar, they juxtapose fear, sickness, and denial of affection with catchy, even uplifting melodies. Their signature song, "Wire Mother," was inspired by experiments performed in the 1950s with Rhesus monkeys. The baby primates were denied real mothers and raised with a wire effigy-mother surrogate. Many died. Survivors were incapable of normal social interaction. Krackjack released their own 10-song CD, "Wire Mother, The Album," in early 2002. They rock regularly at Siberia in Manhattan, supported by a growing, enthusiastic following. ***For booking info, contact Brandon Garrett at 718-369-5176**
