    Artist description
The Fake brothers, Todd and Shawn, and friend, Tim Grimes, formed Century Project in 1998. While the 3 had been playing together for almost two years, their sound began to gel into a psychedelic power trio steeped in the sounds of European shoe-gazer bands like My Bloody Valentine, Ride, and Slowdive. CP produced a self-titled ep on their own label and began playing live in the New London/Mystic area. With the addition of Dawn Salerno in the summer of 2000, they began composing new tunes using keyboard and Salerno's vocals. The new hybrid of Salerno's sometimes ethereal, sometimes jazzy keyboard and Fake's chorused and melodic guitar riffs produced catchy and intelligent pop tunes backed by the solid grooving rhythm of Grimes and Shawn Fake. CP has been called everything from jazzy funk alternative to ethereal alternative pop. With influences as diverse as Cocteau Twins, Jimi Hendrix, Sunny Day Real Estate and Swervedriver, any tag is possible. Each of the four band members contributes equally to the writing process. But there's no doubt that CP's sound comes across as a refreshingly humble melodic pop aesthetic amidst today's over produced music

Despite the generally abysmal meteorological conditions of this winter season or perhaps because of them local band Century Project has been ensconced in a recording studio, preparing to release their debut CD of ambient-flavored, millennial art-funk. The band, comprised of keyboardist/vocalist Dawn Estabrooks, bassist Tim Grimes, guitarist/vocalist Todd Fake and drummer Shawn Fake, anticipate the album should be available by late spring or early summer, and are beefing up their performance schedule to road-test the material. Century Project, along with The Normal and Groove Infections, play at 8:30 Friday at the Secret Theatre in New London. Century Project plays Friday at the Secret Theatre in New London. This show should be a nice opportunity to sample the new songs from one of the area's better and most promising acts
