Artist History
In 1999, few would have guessed the freshman praise band from the BCM at Oklahoma State University would ever play much outside that building. However, 2 years and a name change later, Awaiting Isaac has emerged as a fresh voice in independent Christian music. Drawing their influence from such bands as U2, the Normals, Radiohead, and Caedmon's Call, Awaiting Isaac are putting themselves on display. By openly and honestly displaying their walks with Christ, struggles, and the mystery of God's grace, Awaiting Isaac are connecting with people and humbly gathering with them at the cross.
Originally starting out as a cover band, Awaiting Isaac decided to use their own voice, in November of 2000, to reach society. The four band members, B.J. Morgan (bass, backup vocals), Jeffrey Powell (guitar, backup vocals, keys), Ryan Smith (guitar, lead vocals), and Kyle Thomas (drums), brought their individual music tastes to create a fresh sound in today’s music world. After a summer of traveling (2001), meeting some wonderful people, and maturing as a band, guitarist and backup vocalist Jeffrey Powell, stepped down from the band for personal reasons. His current role with the band is as webmaster and handles booking and band contact. Awaiting Isaac was blessed to have met a guitarist over the summer who stepped into the role immediately. His name was Daniel Chrisman (lead guitar). Daniel Chrisman helped write two songs with Awaiting Isaac, one being the current single off the new album, A Lighter Shade of Clear. Daniel helped the band take the next step in the search for musical maturity. After a few months and a leapfrog in musical depth, Daniel left Awaiting Isaac to pursue another band. Shortly thereafter, Awaiting Isaac met the current lead guitarist, Brian "Mick" Jackson.
Through all of the changes, uncertainties, and frustrations, Awaiting Isaac has held to a message of grace, seeing themselves as they truly are and seeing how God is glorified through us despite our faults. Awaiting Isaac draws their name from Hebrews 11:11 which describes the faith of Abraham and Sarah in holding tight to God's promise of a son, Isaac, and knowing He would be faithful in fulfilling that promise. It is a symbol of faith. It is a symbol of hope. It's something you don't want to miss.
