Electrifying stage presence, complete showmanship, and the original, ranging style of groundbreaking artist Polo, who prefers to go by his namesake, “Valor” will truly astound you. The original Rock en Espaol tracks that Polo has written are created with the intent of bringing a new type of style to the public’s attention. With a mission to bring something new and fresh into the music industry, his International style accompanied by fresh ideas and a variety of musical influences and inspirations are sure to capture and satisfy the radio airwaves. “Valor” is an image characterized by showmanship and talent and is sure to leave a first-impression you will never forget. Polo’s debut performance was at the 1996 Battle of the Bands, which took place in Robstown, Texas. This outstanding performance was a combination of energy, style, and hard work. This all paid off as the pride and honor of winning first place was taken home. Since this performance, he has performed at numerous functions, benefits, and events such as the Big Bang Concert, where Polo shared his talent, style and image with a crowd of 200,000 people. Other events Polo has performed at are Fiesta Mexicana, KNDA 102.9 Beach Jam, Fiesta de la Playa (Portland, TX), Operation Supply Our Students (a benefit to receive school supplies for children who are in need), Robstown Back to School Concert, Turkey Jam (Thanksgiving Day Concert), The Halloween Rock Block Party, Cottonfest, Miller High School Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and various political rallies throughout South Texas. The Yellow Rose Convention Center, La Playa Nightclub, Texas Sky Festival, Red Barn, Paradise Hall, and KC Hall are a few of the many venues that have spotlighted Polo, as well. He also hosted and headlined two shows in Corpus Christi: “Valentine Explosion” on February 17, 2002, and “Summer Siesta” on May 25, 2002. Polo has also made many television appearances such as the Domingo Show, a weekly live show airing in Corpus Christi, Texas, The Amber D. Show, and has also hosted the KTMV International Top 10. He has also taken part in numerous radio interviews and remotes such as KLHB 98.3, KSAB 99.9. Since these performances, Polo has gone on to win Grand Prize 2nd Place at the Houston Community College/MIESA Battle of the Bands 2002. By winning this prize, he received free recording time in their studios to record 3 songs that will be released on a compilation CD for the public to enjoy! Polo’s most recent projects include starring in “Atanasia,” a movie set to be released by the spring of 2002. In Atanasia, Polo plays the key role of bad guy Carlos who is obsessed with Atanasia. Negotiations are in place to feature a few of his songs on the Atanasia soundtrack, as well. In addition to this, Polo has begun filming his first music video to the love-ballad, “Angel” who has climbed the MP3 charts rapidly and taken its spot at 23 for the week. This video’s release date is set for late-June, and it is sure to be an important career move. Article in Shoreline Weekly Newspaper: When it comes to electrifyingly intense concerts in Corpus Christi, Texas, the one to look forward to is Summer Siesta 2002. Not only will this event kick off the summer heat, but it will also feature some of the hottest Rock en Espanol, Latin, and Rock bands in Texas. As you may have heard, the latest craze in music entertainment is the energetic, boundless and cutting-edge flavor of Rock en Espanol (Spanish Rock). Rock en Espanol is not merely a cookie-cutter Spanish language version of the English Rock bands that we listen to today. If you are familiar with the sounds of this genre, you know that this style is not only a combination of Rock, but also many other musical genres such as Ska, Pop, R&B, and Fusion. Although Rock en Espanol’s popularity mostly stems from Texas and Mexico, its intense beats, heavy bass grooves, and high-energy guitar riffs are dispersing the genre’s appeal throughout the United States. Summer Siesta will satisfy your thirst for this powerful combination with 6 bands. The main event will be Valor, a local Rock en Espanol group. Valor has been caught in action all around Texas. Most recently, they took the honor of winning Grand Prize at a Battle of the Bands in Houston, Texas. The amazing rhythm and extreme showmanship that defines the emotion expressed through Rock en Espanol music was immeasurably performed by Valor. Valor, a pioneer in Rock en Espanol music, gave the audience a preview of the power, showmanship, and talent that has made them a success in not only Texas, but other states, as well. Although they were only allotted adequate time to play three songs, Respirar, Angel, and Give, it only took a couple of seconds for the smooth and extremely mature vocals of singer Polo Paredez, and the mesmerizing sounds of Valor to hook the audience. About two-and-a-half seconds into Respirar, the crowd threw their hands in the air, started bobbing their heads to the beat, and remained focused on the band’s energy and emotion which was flowing off of them as smoothly as the sweat off of their bodies. As a result of the Houston Battle of the Bands, Valor won the opportunity to record several tracks for a compilation CD, to be released by MIESA in Fall 2002. Paredez is extremely proud and excited for the level of respect that Valor has earned in the music industry. In a recent interview he stated that, “It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to earn respect in any musical genre, but it is an even bigger challenge to do this in a genre that is brand new to the public.” With fan letters pouring in from Tijuana, Mexico; Estes Park, Colorado; Miami, Florida; and Spain, it appears that Valor’s work has paid off. Valor has been in the music scene since their 1996 debut performance at the Robstown, Texas Cottonfest Battle of the Bands. Rock en Espanol will be making an even bigger leap to national popularity with its possible appearance in an upcoming movie soundtrack. Paredez was cast as the role of obsessive-bad guy Carlos in an upcoming movie called “Atanasia.” Atanasia assistant producer, Ruben Barrera, has chosen Valor’s most popular track, Angel—ranked at number 23 on MP3.com, to be used on the upcoming soundtrack for this movie. If you think that is amazing, then you must not stop here. Joining Valor in the festivities of Summer Siesta will be Demi Garcia, DezNGano, Nemesis, and Chuck Cantu. At only 8 years old, San Antonio’s Demi Garcia can belt out a tune as strong as a 20 year old. Along with her older brother, Justin on guitar, they have become a loved and respected band throughout the San Antonio and Corpus Christi, Texas area. Demi joined Valor in February of 2001 at Valentine Explosion. Since then, Demi has continued to mature her voice and perform with entertainers as legendary as Shelly Lares. She has also performed at the Tejano Music Awards Fanfare in San Antonio, Texas for two years; MJ's Tejano Club in Temple, Texas; Tejano Showcase in Austin, Texas; Christ of King Festival in San Antonio, Texas; and the Prince of Peace Festival in San Antonio, Texas. Justin, 15, has been performing with his guitar since he was 9 years old. Although he has been offered a place in many popular bands, he has chosen to stay by his sisters side and help her make it to the top, but we know that won't be very hard! Straight out of Houston, Texas DezNGano brings to you the newest flavor in cumbias, nortenas, and rancheras. They have been together since March of 2000 and are gaining their respect and fan base throughout Houston, Texas and other musically inclined Texas cities. DezNGano is sure to make you dance, sing, and crave more as you listen to their music and let the beats overwhelm you. DezNGano is: Victor Galindo-primary vocals/accordion; Erik Guerra-percussion/ritmos; Andres Palos; secondary vocals/bajosexto; Aaron Perez-drums; Adam Resendez-electric bass; Saul Sanchez-ritmos/animador. Nemesis is the brainchild of Corpus Christi natives Patrick Vela and Luis Garza, who have toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Mexico with groups such as Letty Guval, Gavino, and La Mafia to name a few. They are based out of Corpus Christi, Texas and have dreams of taking their music around the world. Playing a Mexican Regional-pop style of music always leaves their audiences begging for more. They are currently working on their first album, and are excited to be performing in their hometown for Summer Siesta. Nemesis is: Luis Garza-vocals; Patrick Vela-keyboards; George Moreno-guitar; Joe Lopez-bass; Cesar Hererra-drums. We mustn’t forget the style of music that has made Rock en Espanol, and many other Latin beats possible, Modern Rock. Chuck Cantu and his band will display this style of music. Chuck has been playing for several years with a close friend of his on their acoustic guitars, although they will be bringing a full band to Summer Siesta 2002. Their influences are primarily Rock bands, especially the Dave Matthews Band. Chuck recently played in the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Battle of the Bands and has proven that he can capture the audience's attention with his acoustic style just as well as he can when backed with a fully equipped band. Chuck is from Corpus Christi, Texas. If you have not yet experienced the showmanship, originality or intensity of Rock en Espanol, Latin, or Modern Rock music live and in person, you haven’t lost your chance. Your next opportunity is on Saturday, May 25, 2002 at the Cole Park Amphitheater down Ocean Drive. Admission is free, and the music will continuously flow from 1-6pm. Once you have seen the acts that these genres have to offer, you will surely become a part of the craze that has been filling the airwaves and taking over the music scene.
