Herman Grimme is a singer/songwriter from Groningen, in the North of Holland. After a successful career as a keyboardplayer and composer/arranger in Dutch bands Splitsing and De Jazzpolitie he went solo in 1999 and has just released his first album "Salad Days". This entirely home-made record got rave reviews in the Dutch rock press; there was general praise for the production and quality of songwriting. Artist History
Herman Grimme began his career in college as a pianist for several comedy groups. His first proper rockband was called "Splitsing". The band, who used Dutch lyrics, had a few minor national radio-hits but failed to hit the big time. The real, nation-wide success came with Grimme's next outfit "De Jazzpolitie". Several chart hits, three successful albums and hundreds of gigs later the band ran out of steam and in the late 90s Grimme parted company with his long-time songwriting partner Peter Groot Kormelink. He built a home-studio, switched to English and went solo

    Press Reviews
"...The album opens with a child s voice saying "Hi", lovingly borrowed from Trader, a track on the Beach Boys "Holland" album. It sets the tone for eleven laid-back, pure pop songs that evoke the atmosphere of the afore-mentioned masterpiece. Songs like Dodging The Cracks, Open Your Eyes and Andy would not even have sounded out of place on Holland (...)Salad Days is a successful attempt to make an album like the Beach Boys do not make them anymore...." (Tjerk Lammers, Aloha Magazine, oct 2001) "...Grimme clearly knows what he is doing (...)Occasionally his music reminds me of the Eels. He asks his listeners to spread the news if they like his album: I do!" (Music Maker, oct 2001) "More and more musicians seem to prove that they do not need record companies to release a quality record (...) Some of these songs could almost be called timid, yet they grab your attention nevertheless (...) the tone takes you right back to the hazy days of psychedelica. Grimme keeps the listener alert by employing playful details and wonderful vocal harmonies". (Hans Piët, Haagsche Courant, 12 oct 2001) "Salad Days is contemporary pop music that oozes craftmanship (...) maybe a little subdued here and there, but the quality of these songs easily makes them stand the test of time." (Gerrie Spaansen, Oor Magazine 21, 20 oct 2001) "....No, it is not the Beach Boys, it is an album by a Groningen musician who listened a lot to Brian Wilson. This guy's name is Herman Grimme and he did it all by himself, but the funny thing is: it is a home-made record, but it does not sound like that at all. My first blindfold reactions were: "Hey, this sounds pretty good ... is it British?" and: "This is first-rate stuff...Californian? Beautiful production, too.." (...) Intricate, laid-back songs, sometimes funny, even, but never boring.(...) This singer/songwriter absolutely deserves a bigger audience than he has had so far." (Mart Smeets, VARA TV Magazine, 10 november 2001)
