Artist History
From appearing in Billboard Magazine, to performing on national television, to playing rooms like the House of Blues in Chicago…The Waystation has come a long way since the release of its independent debut album in July 1999. Returning from a two-year hiatus, the band is prepared to take even bigger strides with its return in 2003. Performing a mix of original songs and interpretations of quality cover material, The Waystation features singer-songwriter Dave McDowell and the rhythm section of Bobby Love and Alexander Rea.
The new sound of The Waystation features a wider variety of musical textures than the all-acoustic, folk-inspired debut album. The three musicians employ a variety of creative arrangements, often in the context of a single song or medley, alternating between electric and acoustic instrumentation and seamlessly incorporating traditional kit drums with electronic sounds and congas, bongos and djembe. In addition to a broader musical palette, the band has widened its appeal by deepening the groove and adding a meatier dose of rock. On stage, the band demonstrates the confidence that comes with playing more than 200 shows together. New but familiar, long-time fans will still recognize the narrative lyrics, compelling melodies and deft instrumentation of the band’s signature sound.
