Press Reviews
Flipside-Daisy "The Hum of Daisy" CDHallucinogenic, hypnotic, swirly psychedelic roller-coaster ride that has the honor of being the first record I've ever enjoyed with a singer whose voice resembled Michael Stipe. So much so that this could pass for a tripped-out R.E.M. playing under a pseudonym. Imagine the Spacemen 3 with Small Faces maximum r&b power chords. Would swing on a twin bill with L.A.'s Backbiter. Slick, on the money production and backwards guitars effects turn your brain around. I'm gonna tape 3/4 of the cd and make like the three slower ballads never happened.-Martin McMartinRolling Stone-On the Edge by David Fricke: Grunge treat of the fortnight: The Hum of Daisy,by the Athens,GA., foursome Daisy. It's fuzz-laden garage pop with hints of a boyish, less angst-ridden Husker Du. Which is surely no accident-David Barbe, bassist with the Husker-descended trio Sugar, coproduced most of the record...Rockpool:Daisy-The Hum of Daisy- Expanding on tried and true forms of American guitar psychedelia, The Hum of Daisy is timeless in its rock scholarship. Daisy burst forth with a sunny torrent of solidly ringing guitars and colorful moods that makes one assume these guys from Athens have more square inches taken up by Love and The Velvet Underground in their record collections than their Northwest compatriots have for Sabbath and Skynyrd-which is a lot. Ebullient guitars are radiant on the first track,"Brave Mr.Real", but Daisy are at their most charming when they tone them down in favor of the jaunty hand-clap and trilling organ of the "Hum of Life." Daisy are one of those bands that stretches preconceived forms and runs with them, hurling the best'60s cliches into the future. -Robin Eisgrau |
