Artist description
Soul Committee is an 8-piece band that easily weaves through musical styles including funk, R&B, Rock, Jazz, and more. Based in Jacksonville, Florida, Soul Committee formed nearly three years ago and has established a large following in the Jacksonville and surrounding areas. Complete with a three piece horn section, Soul Committee really needs to be seen live to get the true impact. Reminiscent of old Joe Cocker and even Sly & the Family Stone, Soul Committee's stage presence and musical precision makes them one of the finest, most exciting live acts an audience will see. Their first CD release, Delusions of Grandeur, features 11 original compositions that showcase the band's versatility. According to Mark Faulkner, writer for the Florida Times Union, Soul Committee demonstrates its apt skill at performing different styles of music. Whether it’s jazzy tunes, rock ballads, or oldschool rhythm and blues, this eight-member group pulls it off with a sound so clean that ‘’diamondlike precision’’ only begins to describe it.

Artist History
Began in 1996 with first job being a wedding. The party was bold enough to hire Soul Committee even though they didn't yet have a demo tape. Needless to say, it went well and they've continued ever since. Among the many opportunities the band has had, they performed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for five days and have been the house band for three years running for the Florida Sports Awards, a state-wide, live televised awards show. Shortly after they finished recording the tracks for the CD, Delusions of Grandeur, the band's original trombonist moved to New York to attend school. Gavin Turner, the band's original drummer, moved over to trombone and drummer, Danny Stimpson was welcomed as the newest Committee member. |
