    Artist description
Psychedellic Pine Tree is mainly a two pierce band featuring the vocal stylings of Jeremy Mixer and the tremendous guitar playing of Tom Robert. ALthough PPT would not exist without other occaisional guest musicians. In addition to vocals, Mixer has contributed to Psychedelic Pine Tree's beats, along with harmonica playing, and even some bass and maybe one day something with Mixer actually playing guitar will appear here. Tom Robert plays guitar and writes the majority of the music for the band, and is sometimes known to contribute on bass and sometimes even backing vocals, and enjoys taking long rendezvous around the world and increasing his musical influences as one of the founders of the Psychedelic Pine Tree "Emebrialization." Now Closely tied in with the local band "Monster Deer Horns" (formerly "All About Monster Trucks" (an side project of Doug Herring of Acoustic Herring) PPT is an expirimental jam/improvisational band with a very unique musical approach. Mixer's vocals, a combination of RObert Plant of Led Zeppelin mixed with Rob Zombie with a touch of Jorma Kaukonen with many others mixed in, combined with a variety of musians with influences from Zappa to Coltraine to Metallica, creates everything from psychedelia to pure rock.....hell, let the music speak for itself!

    Artist History
In 1994, high school junior Tom Robert was involved with a small band called "Cult of the Dead Cow" with some other schoolmates. Rehearsing every morning, they were starting to develop a good feel with each other. When the band decided to do a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Thank You" the lead vocalist had very little time to memorize the words. The band asked Mixer, a die-hard Led Zeppelin fan, if he'd fill in on vocals for the one song... Mixer accepted. While his vocal abilities at the time were less then flattering, Robert and Mixer both recognized a musical collaboration. They had known each other and lived near each other for several years, but for the first time they felt like composing music with each other. The follwing summer, Mixer contacted Robert about a song he had composed with a friend that he wanted to put to music....their first original song, a simple (and somewhat cheezy!) blues tune called "Dammit Go Away." By Thanksgiving, Robert had begun school at the University of Maine in Orono, 3 hours north of their homeland of Saco, and came home for Thanksgiving break...during this time the band (still considering using a continuation of the name "The Cult of the Dead Cow" since the original band recently dissolved), the duo recorded a contribution for a Jefferson Airplane tribute album, including covers of "Plastic Fantastic Lover" and "Let Me In" which were used on the project. Deciding to take on a new name to signify thier musical partnership, the band renamed themselves "Psychedelic Pine Tree." Recording sessions continued, as well as covers and originals. Common tunes recorded as covers over the next couple of years included Led Zeppelin's "Thank You," "Whole Lotta Love," "Stairway," "Dazed and Confused," "The Lemon Song." "Battle of Evermore" (with friend Jessica on vocals), "When the Levee Breaks" and "Down by the Seaside," from Jefferson Airplane, the above listed songs, as well as "Volnunteers," "Somebody to Love," "White Rabbit," "Good Shepherd," as well as several Hot Tuna and Cream covers. Also many original were recorded, including "Where it used to be" (a rockin blues original), "Down there... Somewhere" a vast exploration into the story behind the meaning of life, "The Islamic Thanksgiving Desert Song" (now featured here on mp3.com) a mysteriously middle eastern sounding somethingorother containing a similar feel yet far from the same music or lyrics as Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir," just somehow still containing that mythical feeling. Several others were recorded, and still are, many which may make future appearances here. Robert took a year off to go on vacation, and returning the following June, PPT was immediately back in the studio. In July of 1999, after Mixer had a sleepless night where he ended up jotting down lyrics to several songs....mostly bitching about life and work in general, he wrote "Please Help Me." When Robert asked Mixer, after hearing the lyrics, what he wanted to have for music, Mixer said "something weird.....something....psychedelic" and the opening chords started. After the song, Mixer and Robert looked at each other and knew a unique musical collaboration existed between them. Written the same night as "Please Help Me" but not recorded until March of 2000 on a very low quality tape, "Death" defined the unique acoustic jam approach that PPT stands for..... another song recorded the same afternoon, "Dreaming Bear" was a funny way of looking at anger. The song was re-recorded at Watchic Lake with fellow PPT sit-ins Mark, Jeff, and Doug Sanborn. Robert, absent from the recording session due to another long vacation, unfortunately was not around for this recording, However he eventually returned. Mixer, on the other hand, is currently up in Bangor, Maine working as an overnight DJ at Stephen King's rock station WKIT (http://www.zoneradio.com/wkit) but Psychedellic Pine Tree still lives on. More tunes will be coming, let us know if you want to be notified when something new is posted!
