Artist History
In 1995, three musicians & friends decided toget together for some 3 foot bong rips and to do a little jammin' these three musicians were: Tom Sampley, Ken Manley and Scott Lambert. Tom Sampley & Ken Manley had played together before in a Metal/Hard rock group titled "Dying Breed" but they had never taken there music to serious. Scott Lambert was at the time still playing guitar for the thrash group known as "Void" but the group was on the downward spiral. When these three first met the chemistry was undeniable, Sampley's vocal talent was an instant compliment to Lambert's guitar playing and the sound was incredible. Ken Manley had also played guitar in "Dying Breed" so he made the switch to drums and percussion for this new project. The idea for this new project was to create music that at that time was not often heard- Reggae, folk and other stoney music. The group was lacking a bass player so they enlisted Chris Koranda, also a guitar player for the group "Void" his duties were switched to the bass and the lineup was complete. With the line-up complete the Puppits set their sights on playing at a local coffee shop to debut there new sound. The coffee shop never happened. The Martian Puppits played there first live show in the early summer of 1995 at a small cantina in Yuba City and received a very warm welcome into the music world. The Puppits continued playing at small clubs and parties and then recorded their first CD entitled "The Big Hoax". The CD went over fairly well for being as diverse as it was. After recording there first CD the band received some opening slots for burnt-out rockers at the Boardwalk in Sacramento these acts included Steve Morse, L.A. Guns, Dread Zeppelin and Oleander. As time went on the Puppits started to change their musical style to a more aggressive style of music than that of just plain party music. This change prompted the departure of drummer Ken Manley (who was also experiencing health problems) and made way for new drummer Matt Glaze. With a new drummer came a new sound, the Puppits had discarded there Reggae & Latin inspired backbeats and replaced them with pure energy and aggression. Although the Puppits have changed a lot over the past 2 years the idea still remains the same, to have fun and play some kick-ass jams. The Martian Puppits have finished recording their second CD (first with M. Glaze). You can expect some serious guitar riffs and raps from Chris Koranda, brand new climaxes from vocalist Tom Sampley, a vigorous blend of electronic/acoustic percussion assault from Matt Glaze and a standard of guitar playing you can only expect from Scott Lambert. |
