Artist History
Jupier Down formed in Chicago when Michigan transplants Jeff Parent and Rudy Rivera answered Donna Donato's ad looking for female musicians. Donna decided to give the guys a chance, and the trio immediately clicked. Jeff and Rudy, who have been playing together for several years, provide a formidable rhythm section, against Donna's dreamy musings.

Press Reviews
............"If you're one who's quick to judge, Splendid hereby issues a
warning: Jupiter Down may have you drawing conclusions after
one listen, when you really should be meditating on what
just whizzed by. Those with short attention spans will
tiredly note that Jupiter Down can graze the sonic surface
with plenty of noisy, echoing guitar notes, harmonics and a
trebly, thumping bass that fills every available guitar-less
nook with a deserving buzz. However, a more in-depth
examination of this three-piece reveals subtle, shrouded
musical mechanics of a complex nature. These provocative,
atmospheric sounds and churning guitar effects are the
hidden delicacies that complement the noisy-yet-dreamy
concoctions of wired sound. We're not talking about some
"techno-ambient" or "space-rock" band here, as tracks like
"Inamorata" and "Numb" can confidently cite Shellac or an
imaginary, female-fronted Volcano Suns as references while
they conduct their own brand of quiet fervor. Jupiter Down's
most subjectivity-prone attribute is Donna Donato’s vocals,
which range from compressed, barking bursts to dissonant
melodrama. Regardless, Jupiter Down’s debut is a palatable
offering of guitar fireworks and guttural rhythms." -- Andrew
Magilow, Splendid E-Zine
.........."This is sounds like a fudge or a blurb, but PJ Harvey does Tool and Rush
covers for a "Save The World From Some Flesh Eating Virus We Just
Discovered Growing In Lake Michigan" benefit. This could be taken as a
compliment really. Very dark, humbly gloomy, Jupiter Down has spent alot
of time on riffs and technical musical conceits. A stylish occassionally
gripping piece of work, if not a bit predictable." --Tom King, Jetbunny
.........."Jupiter Down combine some interesting aspects of modern music. The guitars ride the fence between rock and space-rock. The vocals seem to be an indie-rock version of PJ Harvey, and most of the bass lines are definitely culled from the Rodan book of math-rock. So what do you call this? I call this pretty damn good. Nearly every song on this disc is good in some respect. Check this one out. Thanks to Beluga for unearthing another previously unknown Chicago band." --Jesse Croom, Jitter Magazine
........."Some bands are so unintentionally unfashionable that they feel like a breath
of fresh air. On their self-titled debut, Jupiter Down are 1999's best
1984-style late-new wave trio - and that's a compliment. The limber rhythm
section - bassist Jeff Parent and drummer Rudy Rivera - is mixed dry and
clear, as is the singing/murmuring of Donna Donato (ex-Gottzwammi), while
her guitar floats in and out on tides of delay. In these times when
sounding like The Buzzcocks is a viable career move, sounding like Pylon
seems like an act of courage and inspiration. Even a near-miss like the
epic closer "Deep End," which melds prog, goth, and space over several
movements, is audacious - maybe just because no one's taking this particular
set of risks anymore." --Ben Kim, Illinois Entertainer
