Artist History
Happy Fernandez was formed in 1995 by singer songwriter guitarist Jeremy Fitzkee. After a year of playing and writing on the west coast, Jeremy returned to his native Philadelphia to form the band and solidify his sound. In 1997 Jeremy packed up and moved the band to New York City to be part of a larger scene and increase the bands exposure. With drummer Brad Parker and bassist Jeremy Hammond, the band quickly found gigs and a following in the numerous rock clubs of New York City's Lower East Side such as Arlene Grocery, Brownies, CBGB’s and Coney island High. Quite naturally Happy Fernandez managed to amass a sizable and loyal fan base along the way.
The band recently released its first CD (self titled) on short arm records. The highly anticipated release was greatly appreciated and highly acclaimed by happy fans. The record includes an array of songs that expose Jeremy’s songwriting versatility yet stays consistent with the bands conceptual uniqueness. Songs like ‘Jenny’ and ‘Big Wheel’, two fan favorites,
reveal a knack for real powerful pop appeal. The album also includes more intricate, emotional and lyrically substantial songs like ‘Less Than Brilliant’ and ‘Barcelona’. ‘Lucky’ and ‘Museum’ are drawn from earlier material and provide a defining essence of the bands style. Rounded out with a heavy handed ‘Martina’ and a fun loving ‘L.A.’s Erosion’ this CD proves that Happy Fernandez is, on top of everything else, a good time band.
Jeremy Fitzkee is originally from York Pennsylvania, a small town 100 miles west of Philadelphia. York has the distinction being a hot bed for musicians. Several success stories such as the rock groups Live and Fuel as well as guitarist Christopher Thorn of Blind Melon all hail from York. “Whether its the murky waters of the Susquehanna or its close proximity to the Three Mile Island I’m not sure. York has always had a great music scene for a small town.”, says Jeremy. |
